I have PTSD, I have been suffering loss of concentration among other things. I have freinds that have mentioned on several ocasions I'll be apart of the conversation and then they look over to ask me something and it's like I'm not there. It has taken the a lot of effort to snap me out of it (flash backs).
My question is I have freinds that have an idea there is something wrong, including neighbors one I really trust.
Who do I tell and how do I let them know what is wrong and why I act the way I do. Especially when blackouts occur and I can't remember.
How do I reveal to my few freinds I'm not NORMAL!!!
What about family???

Comments suggestions welcome..................Help?

Hi lit fuse! It's difficult to tell others these things, but its completely up to you. Tell who you feel safe telling and who NEEDS to know, you don't have to tell everyone. If you can get through your work day just fine, no need to tell your employers. You don't have to tell every friend, and you definately don't have to share every detail. Just share what you feel comfortable sharing to those you can trust. They don't HAVE to know and it's completely up to you if you want to let them in or not.

I completely agree with "Purple" -- this is something that is quite private, and you have to determine who is safe to tell. If the one neighbor is REALLY trustworthy, and you KNOW he won't be telling others, then by all means, share it with him, but you do NOT have to go into details. Share what YOU think is appropriate -- just enough so that he understands what is going on.

And don't say you aren't "normal" -- you're normal for a person who has PTSD. You certainly are NOT abnormal!! You are a person who has gone thru some very disturbing trauma! There are many others who have gone thru such events too, so you're not "abnormal." My heart goes out to you as I'm sure it's frightening to have these flashbacks!

I hope you're in therapy too because you really should be in order to deal with the PTSD. If you're not, please find a therapist who deals with this disorder!!!

I wish you the very best. Please take care & God bless. Hugs, Lee
