Hey guys,
I just expierenced my first earthquake. Me and my BF were sitting in the livingroom and felt a loud noise, and a rumble, the floor vibrated. He went to go look outside, saw nothing. I told him to go check in the basement incase something happened down there, nothing. My sister phoned me this afternoon telling me whether or not I felt the earthquake that hit Oakville today... I told her OH that's what it was, yeah I felt it... Funny how it hit here and no where else in the Greater Toronto Area. Going to watch the news at 11 to see what it was about. |

Wow, that must have been scary, particularly if you're not in the earthquake zone... I'm glad there wasn't any damage and that you came through it, even though it was mild...

Yeah here is the newspaper clipping: Toronto Star
I live pretty close to the area shown on the map. Sounded like there was a transport truck hitting our foundation. It was a 2.7 they said. We never get them, not in this area, maybe like 20+ yrs ago. Edited to maintain poster's privacy - silver_queen |

It was a 2.7! We don't even feel those out here in California! But I'll bet it was scary, though! I've never "heard" an earthquake before... just the after effects... like transformers blowing.

I had my first one in Ottawa back in February, majorly scary (for me, I'm a bit of a worrywart)... a 4.5. Glad you're okay. ![]()

UGH! That is not a good feeling! I think those who aren't used to them feel even the slightest tremor. I was in Mexico City once when they had a tiny shiver of one... it was my first... I stopped dead on the sidewalk. Everyone else keep walking.. HUH??? Of course they laughed at me
![]() Hadn't thought about Canada's faultlines in many a year. Glad it wasn't big.

Thanks Sky, Canders and Maven for the replies.
Canders I remember reading about it in Ottawa... We never get them down this end not in over 20 yrs. Yeah It almost felt like bass going off under you from a really loud concert or something, but the rumbling got me jumpy. Too close, literally, I'm glad that it wasn't higher. I want to listen to the news tonight I know it'll be all over the place as it's so rare... It was better not knowing what it was when it happens, cause you just assume it's something from next door, but once you know you think that's not good, to know that you just felt an earthquake under your home. It happened so quickly too. |
