I have tried to get information about this in the past with little luck, so I am going to try again. As a child, I had explosive rages when I got upset that landed me in special education and everything. They ended when I was a young teen, but I still feel like having them sometimes. Anyway, my mental health team is uninterested in finding the exact cause (I'm bipolar and they hinted they think that was my childhood problem) and says it's best I get CBT to help control it. But I want to know the cause. I am on antipsychotics and mood stabilizers and that is not controlling it, so I wonder what is the cause. I need to know where to start, do I go to a child psychologist maybe to review my past records?
I suspect I have ADHD because that was my childhood dx and now I don't pay attention to things well and I fidget like crazy, but they said it was the bipolar. I also have strong interests that resemble an autism spectrum disorder IMO, but they say my behavior is within the norm. The other problem I have is that I wonder how rare this condition is. I never saw a support group, or anyone ever say they had or have explosive rages. I feel alone like crazy. BTW, my sig, they now say I'm Rapid Cycling Bipolar with Psychosis, to give you a current idea of what they think I have.

I'm glad you're trying again--that's great. The fact that the meds don't work is good negative information you can give your doctor. Having what you do know written down important ... you have some of that at least here. Please fill in anything like that you've left out.
You have a pdoc, I assume, who's prescribing. Thats your BFF in terms of resolving your mental health issues. Stay on his/her case. Make sure this person understands that you expect the very best professional effort that person has to give you. "Good enough" ISN'T good enough for you. Let them know that you are in this with them & that for you it's a team effort. You are joined at the hip until you (plural) find the best solution that current science/technology has to offer. This isn't a threat, it's a contract. You will do your part. You must be cooperative, answering questions fully and honestly and being compliant with any medications you and your pdoc agree on. This is how I got my life straightened out. My pdoc and I had some real rousing battles, he threatened to have me locked up & I consider biting him once ... 4 yrs later we're teammates and I'm one of his biggest fans ... he's very proud of me and keeps track of me carefully just to make sure I'm doing okay. What you want is possible, but it takes a lot of work on everyone's part. Roadie ![]()
