I am a quarter Welsh, a quarter Norwegian, a quarter German, and finally a quarter Italian, I love all kinds of music (except "rap") but why is it Celtic music and Japanese music calms me the most???????
This is just a "for fun" thing, but any input to this?????

Hmmm... could it be that Celtic music is by nature, soothing and some Asian music can be? The question is... does it stir any passion in you?? What explains this?

Old mariachi music does it to me... What explains this? Stirs me, that is...

mariachi, uh? tee hee, you are funny
It kind of relaxs me, even my breathing slows down like when I use to do yoga at school, also evokes scenes of the outdoors in my head while indoors.

I am half Norwegian, and an eighth each Danish, Swedish, Swiss, and English. I like Celtic music too, and it is calming. I think it's the nature of the music. I play the Irish Whistle and recorder flutes, and a lot of the songs I love to play the most are Celtic. My husband is Scottish and he plays the bagpipes too, and loves the Celtic music, so I have mostly been exposed to it through him. Not that I don't also like other music, particularly Norwegian music (that Hardanger fiddle can really get you, and we have one album with a Norwegian singer and an Irish singer - they take turns - on that album we both prefer the Norwegian singer - the album is Tideland by Rita Eriksen and I forget the name of the other lady). But a lot of Norwegian music is sad or even tragic. Another thing about the Celtic music, particularly Irish Whistle, is that it blends so well with nature sounds. We have several albums that incorporate nature sounds with Irish Whistle, and those are very soothing.

I have no idea. I'm 99% italian and about 1%swiss (don't ask me how, LOL!) And, I really don't care for celtic or Japanese music. I really enjoy certain kinds of music to soothe me...Like, piano solo's by George Winston or most classical music. I really do like many different types of music...just depends on my moods to which type I listen to.

I don't think that Sept was kidding - I think she had said she had been born in Mexico, so Mariachi might inspire feelings of nostalgia.

Celtic music doesn't do much for me, but Japanese music is very tranquil -- I can understand why it would sooth anyone. I doubt that musical preference has anything do do with genetics, aside from a nostalgia component.

It's interesting to read about everyone's heritage, though. I'm half Hungarian, half Greek/Macedonian. I don't really relate much to the Greek part -- I don't look anything like that side of my family.

We are ALL going to be a-ok!

My son plays the pipes too
Classical piano for 8 yrs. and HS School band "pit" instruments. I am not good at trying to read and play an instrument
But they call me the "artisit" in the family . . .and of course, major animal lover.
