I've been looking for a therapist for me ... with the hopes that my husb will eventually meet with him/her as well. My husb is severely depressed but has 'decided' it's not him but everyone else who has a problem.

Anyway, I found a counselor with potential - the only problem is he doesn't have an office in my area & the office he does have won't be 'remodeled' until October. He says he will meet with me (or any/all patients) at their homes. First of all I can't meet with him at home because husb is there & the therapist & I will need privacy to talk freely. Second, well, this meeting at my home just sounds a bit weird to me.

Anybody ever have the therapist offer to/insist upon a house call?

Yes I have. But I didn't want to because my husband would be there, and my husband was the BIG problem! I didn't want my husband to be able to hear what I was talking about, and I wouldn't be comfortable or be able to talk freely with him there. So, we had to put it off until we could schedule it in his office. As it turned out, I didn't like him anyway, and after about 3 sessions, I quit going to him and found another therapist.

If it's not going to be comfortable for you to talk freely in your home, then don't have this therapist come over. It's just not worth it. Either wait until October to see him, or find another therapist all together. Personally, I think I'd find another one. But that's totally up to you. if you think you're going to "click" with this one, then wait.

I wish you the very best I hope things work out for you. God bless and keep us posted, will you? Hugs, Lee

I've heard that a lot of "hip" therapists will use Skype in order to make calls to their patients if they somehow can't make it to the office. You'd have to call him & find out if he does anything like this. That way, if you need to, you can excuse yourself to another room & have a videochat therapy session since him being there IRL might be a bit too conspicuous for your comfort level. Sorry your husband is clueless.
Thanks for this!

Hahahaha I have no idea because I don't watch much TV, but it really does happen. We're in the age of computers & too little free time. I suppose it is a convenience for the patients & an easy session for the therapists, especially if the patient is in an emergency or agoraphobic or something. Seems legit enough. Idk
