I am considering this could be part of my problem, I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't somehow effect me. Its rather depressing to think about, that a lot of issues I have could be the result of an unpreventable circumstance, or maybe it was a case of things not being paid attention to enough, but either way I somehow almost got strangled with my birth cord which I imagine caused some oxygen loss.

Within the past year I've been fairly convinced I might have aspergers syndrome, confirmed by a therapist I was going to and other people(friends/family members) I've talked to think it could be a possibility...so maybe it was a factor in that(its possible from what I've read). Or maybe I just have brain damage that makes me come off as having that disorder....or maybe both. I also found when I was looking up what effects lack of oxygen at birth have it also said it can increase the stress level, making the indiviual born that way less able to handle stress, that seemed to be an issue for me even before I developed obvious PTSD symptoms after something that happened when I was in highschool. So maybe that could have increased my risk for that disorder. I don't know I suppose I am just curious how that might have effected me.

The cord was around my neck three times. I don't know if it caused any trouble. I just never thought about it before. Interesting.

Lack of oxygen at birth can have no or negligible effects, moderate effects and disastrous effects. It's a wild card and research in the area is interesting but clinical findings are unpredictable. It's possible you have brain damage, which can be assessed through various diagnostic imaging techniques, although I don't see that happening for you unless a doctor is willing to go out on a limb, if you have one hell of a large wallet or participate in a research study.

It's best to avoid asking friends or family as to whether you have a particular psychiatric illness, especially if they don't have formal training or much education in that area. They may very well be correct, however, it strengthens self-diagnosing and that can be a temporary roadblock if you do see a psychiatrist. Additionally, if you see a psychiatrist and get an alternate diagnosis, you may be left wondering who to trust: the clinician with years of formal training who met you for less than a couple of hours or family and friends who lack such training but have known you for years.

Dunno, when I came out I couldn't breathe because there was too much mucous in my nose/lungs/whatever, and couldn't cry till they could clear the air passages.. and well, i came out very effed up.

Well then it would have to be a research study, because I doubt I'd be in a position to afford that assessment.

Also I did not ask them, my sister just mentioned it to me and said I should look into it...so I talked to the therapist I was going to about it. I'm still not 100% sure, but as far as he could tell it was certainly possible. The other people I've heard it from have people with that disorder or simular issues in their families. Either way I have an appointment that I believe is with a psychiatrist later this month so I will see what they say. I had no way of affording it before and the only reason I can at the moment is my moms helping me with the cost....since I have no income.

But yeah I've had unusual symtoms/behaviors and ways of interaction ever since I can remember and its caused noticeable difficulties thus far.

hmm intresting, especially the bit about processing things slower...that is how I have described my brain function many times. It seems I process things slower leading to an appearance of being less intelligent than I am. I even get interrupted quite a bit on accident because it can take a while to get all my thoughts into words...so some people take my pause as me being done with whatever I was saying.

But yeah hopefully I can figure out more about this...my moms helping me with getting all my medical records together since I'm applying for SSI so maybe I can finally figure out more specifically what I am dealing with. Its been kind of frusterating wondering what the hell is wrong with me since I was 7 if not before.

This describes me. I process things slower than most. It is obvious when I am in a conversation. I think about things carefully so it appears as if I am slow, but I am not (My intelligence is above average). Most people don't have the patience or they misunderstand me.

My psychiatrist suspects I have a few learning disabilities. She mentioned auditory processing disorder and a possible language comprehension problem. I have been diagnosed with ASD.

Strange but I am in university, where I am excelling. I think it has to do with independent learning. My listening is poor in lectures, but I make up for it through all the reading I do, my superb memory and unique problem solving abilities.

Perhaps you can also look into getting tested for learning disabilities.

I never had a lack of oxygen at birth.
