Do you sometime get a real

That would be a negative.
I don't think anyone's ever asked me how I was and expected me to say the truth! If they only knew...

I do... but only from people who really "know" me (or think they do, or moreso than others).
But most of the time, nope.

I'm not sure... except maybe here. I never tell people in 3D how I really am because I figure they're just repeating a greeting and don't really mean it.

Oh, it is used as a "greeting" more often than not. But I think I have had a few sincere "so how are you *really*?". But I must be honest, my answer is always 'protected'.

Does a "What's wrong?" count. I get those usually. Thats all I'll get. And usually I can't say anything too them or just bury my face in my hands and hope that they'd leave, even if that's the last thing I want them to do.

People who know me don't ask that question unless they've got some time on their hands...cause I'll tell them.....

I think whenever I look happy (smiling and groomed nicely) people want to know how I am doing.
I think people know intuitively how a person is doing for the most part but especially knows when someone is doing not so well. It's during those times when most people do not care to hear about woes so will ask a superficial "how are you" very quickly just as an intro to small talk. Somehow we are supposed to know that they expect to only hear a short response like "fine" or "wonderful" or "I'm doing very well, thank you." I've often replied back "how are you" to their "how are you" and let them talk about their problems. I don't think they noticed I never answered their question. The military is really bad about this. Military members are taught customs and courtesies about greeting one another. Like robots they'll greet each other, sometimes after a hand salute, and start talking business. It's ironic that asking "how are you" has become the polite thing to say to people but it is impolite not to listen or care (if asking the question "how are you") |

My pdoc always asks how are you. I told her one time I'm fine when I really wasn't and she said that's not very convincing and I said well its the socially acceptable answer and she said well we aren't social. She said when your shrink asks you how you are they really want to know. So I guess that's the only time I'm ever really asked how I am is when I pay someone to ask that.

[b] Yes, I do! IRL from my physical therapist, and my psychologist, and once in a while from a brother who lives in Boston. And here at PC!
AND my "how are you doing?" questions to others here, are real, too. and so are my hugs! (((time0)))
