They are advertising that here locally as a CHILDREN'S connection site. (for questions about children and their care.)

Here.... meaning? - on this site or in your town?
All I know is that I heard about it on the local news for HELP to anyone who was in need.... being in Florida and all (hurricane season starts June 1). LoVe, Rhapsody - |

In my state, 211 is a social services directory line. They can be nice to talk to because the number is a 24/7 number. However, they tend to try to give information from their directory. So, you end up with numbers and have to call them to see if they can help you. The phone answerer will sometimes try to give you a number that is worthless to you.
I called them a few different times because they discontinued making the directory public. They make you subscribe to the social service directory on-line in my area. The person tried to give me some numbers to do with employment that focused only on disabled people. I corrected the person and then the person saw that statement in the resource directory. However, it is a good place to start on looking for social services in your area. They do have a pretty good size directory in my area. They seem to work on updating it pretty regularly. I would suspect that they would be good to talk to if a person needs to talk to a good listener and wants to remain anonymous. They do not ask for a name. I have not tried to share a thought of suicide with them. So, I am not sure I'd suggest it for that. A friend of mine almost found a bed for the night through 211 also. |

I hope you don't mind but I will add a little more. My area of 211 has free short-term counseling available. The person can do it anonymously and it is provided by master's degreed volunteers. In my area, you just call 211 and ask about it. The person must not have therapist or be taking a psychiatric drug. I think they also tend to exclude addiction issues and probably severe mental disorders. I can't remember the exact requirements in my area. The 211 number is ran by the Mental Health Association in my area. I am not sure if this is the case in other areas. I think I will shut up now.

IT's a united way group effort here..and yes, they do have all those options of services listed on the website for 211 local hmmm but they advertise it as The Children's ..ugh I can't recall the last word! Yes, they only give other numbers to call... something many counties had been doing with a "team metro" approach. It's just the common listing of all the county services...same red tape imo. sigh. Guess they got federal monies to promote it? IDK. Hope it helps someone.
