Worst scenario: be alone abroad, lose the job, don't know how to book the plane ticket. It's awful that my mother was right: don't work abroad because sth bad will happen and you'll be all alone in a foreign country.

i'm sorry you are going through this. is there someone you can borrow the money from, like your mother or friends? i don't know where you are located but most cities usually have some form of emotional support set up. (social workers, charities, hospital programs) i hope you will find a way to get better soon. take care!

If you are ever stuck in a bad situation abroad, contact your embassy or consulate for help. They can be very helpful.

Years ago, I was in Russia on holiday, and I fell and broke my ankle. I wound up in hospital, and wound up being in hospital past my visa expiration date, which is a big deal in Russia. The Canadian embassy was very helpful in helping me by getting an extension to my visa, and some other things.

splitimage, that is a good suggestion. Although some countries are more concerned for its citizens than others

It's Norway, a surprisingly inhospitable country. I'll end up in the street and it's freezing here.

You don't know how to book a plane ticket or your don't have the money to get it?

I was in Rome......went over there with my husband for his job back in 1976......We thought we were only going to be there 2 weeks.....turned out we were there for 5 weeks & my parents had purchased me a round trip ticked for the 2 weeks. I don't speak Italian....but I was able to find a ticket agency in downtown Roma.....we were staying out in EUR......it wasn't difficult to arrange that.....or can you get a ticket through the internet....many people buy plane tickets over the internet....I would imagine that works no matter what country you are living in.

Hey Bathony,

I am sorry that you are in such a situation.
However, I do believe that there is help available.
If you feel you have too much in your head right now, please hold on and keep communicating with people (not only here in the forum).

For concrete help, try contacting the Caritas in Norway:

email: caritas {at} caritas.no
TEL: (Oslo) 23 33 43 60

OR, this organization that helps some foreigners to return home from Norway:

http://www.voluntaryreturn.com/

The embassy of your country could also be of help.

Problem will arise everywhere, but you'll get stronger if you deal with them.

I fail to see if you are just thinking about this scenario or if it is really happening.
Thanks for this!

If you're implying that I am lying, come visit me: Aurskog, Schonheyders vei 14b, Akershus, Norway.

Nope, I was not implying that you were lying. Only asking if that's something already happening or that you expect to happen in the near future.

Bathony, I would suggest to take the advise given by split image and also_depr and get in touch with either your consulate/embassy or an organization like the caritas. They can advise you on your options. Anything is better than doing nothing. I hope you will be able to return back to your home country soon. Take care

For ****'s sake, this couldn't get any worse. It's the Nobel Prize time, so you can't leave Norway without a passport. I don't have a passport because it's ****ing Schengen zone. I am literally trapped. This can't get any worse now.

Where are you originally from?

Do you not know how to book a plane ticket, or can you not afford one?

Also, the Schengen Zone has no border control so you should be able to leave Norway, just depends where you're trying to get.

No, every country of the Schengen zone can go back to passports, now ****ing Norway thinks the officials coming here would be in danger if foreigners would like to go back to their countries. I am literally trapped, as if I were in a Third World country. Now that I've stopped sobbing, it seems kinda hilarious. Trapped abroad in the Schengen zone, that's just my luck.

Okay, well I'm not sure about the specifics since I haven't been to Norway in a few years, and they're non-EU.

Does your country have an embassy in the country? And do you have any money at all? It's understandable that you're upset, but you need to try to calm down and read some of the advice people have been giving you here.

If you don't have a passport for whatever reason, your embassy can help. Start there.

i understand that border control is intensified now bc of the nobel price festivities but norway is an efta state and therefore participates in the EU internal market. You probably know this already but one aspect of the internal market is the freedom of movement of persons. So you as an EU national are allowed to enter and leave Norway with your ID card. No one is allowed to force you to stay in Norway against your will. In any case, contact your Embassy or Consulate for help with the travel details or worst case scenario you apply for a new passport . They should be able to give you some more advice. Also, I was wondering if you have been thinking of filing for the E-301 certificate? If you are unemployed in Norway and you don't qualify for unemployment benefits you can ask that any rights you have earned in another EEA country are transferred to Norway.
I hope you are ok..I have been in a similar situation once and I know how scary it is. Keep posting here for support. I wish you all the best.

Closed borders doesn't mean not being able to leave the country. Just that they are checking your ID/passport on the border. But even if someone doesn't have them, embassies should be able to provide you with valid temporary travel documents to come back home (which I don't know where it is for you).

Sounds like you are functioning only in your emotional mind & not listening to the logic that people are trying to provide for you here through this post.......I know it's hard to keep the emotional mind quiet during times like this.....but you need to distract your emotional mind so that your logical mind has a chance to function.......& you will be able to handle this situation. Yes, it's a difficult situation to be in....but NOT impossible to get out of.
