Perhaps they simply didn't share your diagnosis with you at that time? I know that my pDoc isn't real keen on sharing diagnoses with his clients either, as he feels as though people become overwhelmed or too focused on the illness, rather than simply focusing on what helps them feel better. I did come straight out and ask what my diagnoses were so I could have some sense of relief, rather than wonder.

He then shared them with me, but also threw in NOS to most of my diagnoses. It still leaves some things to the imagination, as I'd rather have it black and white - nice and simple. But, I guess that it isn't real simple very often in the real world.

If it's really bothering you, you can always ask your doc for the diagnosis and prognosis.

When I was received my first diagnosis, NOBODY told me either. I had to find out in the waiting room of my therapist's office while they talked about me.

If it's bothering you, you should ask. I don't see any good reasons for them keeping your diagnosis away from you. I truly believe that learning your diagnosis will help you with treatment in the long run (at least that's how it worked with me).
