I've been feeling extremely anxious and wondering what's going on because I keep hearing people laughing at me and having thoughts that people are out to get me. I have tried getting help, but sitting in the waiting rooms drive me crazy because I keep hearing everyone laughing at what a joke I am and how I am over reacting to something so small. I know sometimes these are all in our heads because I have had thoughts that were later revealed to be untrue. The thing is I don't know if what I hear is real, and it's because of this that I can't even trust the people that I am going to get help from. It feels so real when I hear it but when it turns out to be untrue, I feel like my brain is playing tricks on me. What should I do?

Even though the waiting rooms bother you, I definitely believe you need to consult with a mental-health professional. Maybe if need be, you can talk to the office about your problem with waiting rooms, and perhaps they'll let you sit out in the car or wait somewhere else until the professional is ready to see you.
