I've learned in Sociology, that there is a Social Perspective that related you to people in ways you are unaware of. According to this theory, people are who they are because of their surrounding network such as family, friends, community, and so on. Emile Durkheim (European Sociologist) did a study on people who had attempted suicide and discovered that people are three times more likely to commit suicide if they don't have a extended network of people in their lives, such as close family, friends, or an involvement in community. Human Interaction is bigger then the sum of it's whole. What do you all think? Do you find any truth in this, or do you disagree? Or do you fell this effects you personally?

I believe this to be true. It's the interaction with these people that teaches us how to behave, what is acceptable and what isn't. However, it's our inborn spirit that will sort out the positive from the negative and either become stronger from it or it will break you.

I also believe it is true to a point. I also think part of who we are is inherited. We are born with dispositions toward certain outlooks and behavior. People around us may reinforce whom we are or mute our personalities into a combination of ourselves and what the community is..

I believe it. I AM it. I'm close to nobody, never have been, and have had many a problem with suicide.
Disconnection makes me feel empty inside... very painful.

I completely agree. I know that if you don't have a good support system it is less likely that you'll survive.
