I can't remember fairly important things, but I can remember unimportant or things that don't really mean all that much to me, why is that?

Could be stress, could be something you may want to see a doctor about, even a primary care physician, to make sure you don't have anything physically going on with your health.

I do not know what is going on in your life at the moment.
What I know for me and memory (or not memory) is anxiety interferes with thinking, and memory. G1 |

I don't know what you are thinking is important. We have to work to remember what we want (grocery list, new person's name, someone's birthday, etc.) it isn't automatic. Remembering stray little things of interest to you is because they are of interest to you. The "importance" depends on important to whom and why and how hard you work to try to remember.

I'm thinking of, I can remmber a song I heard 10 years ago once but have trouble remembering what I came down stairs to do. Or spend an hour looking for my ps3 controller when it is in my hand. I am only 33.

Ah, short term memory problems. Maybe this article will help explain it? Memory Loss (Short- and Long-Term): Causes and Treatments I'd tell your doctor you are concerned and let him/her check you out.

Sometimes medications do affect memory. I definitely have experienced that.

It sounds like a dissociative state of mind. (Simple daydreaming is a form of dissociation.) You are not being totally present to your life. I suspect there is something about your life that you are trying to escape. Maybe some trauma happened to you . . . perhaps a long time ago. Or maybe some real important emotional need you had was not met. It sounds like you have kind of given up on expecting much good from life, so you have kind of tuned out.
I think you are very correct to think that the "forgetting" is meaningful. It indicates something. It might be good to figure out what. |

Speaking of remembering things, I've been able to call up all the bad and good stuff that I used to do in grade school. Others bullied me and I fought back. Man, I so want to stop the "healing process".

Yeah that happens to me a lot. If I remember an event that impacted me greatly it will always be stuck there somewhere. all the bad memories I've had are stored somewhere in my brain and I can call them up whenever I can, whereas all the good times I've had with everyone... those memories have been wiped out or at least been overridden by the majority of my negative ones.
