I made the mistake of whatching the 20/20 special on Last Days On Earth, and I am obsessing about it. I am stopping myself from thinking what is the use, and then going to common sense tells me that I can't control any of this so just live my life. But is makes me so very sad to think that it could all be for nothing. ;-( I need a new perspective on this show, did anyone watch it. Often times if I just see other perspectives then I can turn my thinking.

Did not see the segment..but the title sounds like it would not be indicative of a warm fuzzy type of scenario..one day at a time..the rest will have to take care of itself...just my thoughts...sometimes the media gets hooked into the "doom and gloom" of reality..would like to see more positive issues out there..just hard to find them now days..when the more dire straights catches ppl's breath..and the ratings..

I meant to watch it but forgot. There are other things going on in this world that scare me to death, too, and if I give in to the doom and gloom, there really isn't any reason for doing ANYTHING! What's the use.

BUT!! ... We don't know IF and WHEN these disasters are going to happen. IF is a very big two-letter word! Way too big for me to worry about. There's too many things I need to take care of in my personal life, within my four walls and in the immediate neighborhood for me to worry about things that I have no control over. Those natural disasters or the lack of them, as in the hurricane that didn't materialize in Florida are in their Creator's hands. HE can worry about them! Last Days On Earth Video from 20/20

I know. Sometimes it's easier said than done, but if we try just a little, it works!

Last Days On Earth Video from 20/20 Last Days On Earth Video from 20/20 Should be able to give such a show a full review and hold an open discussion about it's implications for us. Although I found the show very frustrating and badly, perhaps manipulatively, done, I watched a fair bit of it and was hoping others would have felt free to give it a through review here. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have been the case.

We can and must deal with such issues especially the last few they covered, GMO products for profit, Nano technology/Computers/cyborgs run amok, the Climate Change Emergency #1 for instance. The most vulnerable will be hurt first, that's in many cases us folks! We must deal with the problems and the mental health related impacts of those problems, not hide our heads in the sand or say it's out beyond our collective and individual responsibility.

It's an inconvenient truth.

The solutions are collective and individual and up to us. To censor such collectively and individually important discussions here or anywhere else is information control that is practiced by totalitarian governments, cults, and petty tyrants, but I have likely said too much and not nearly enough already. Thanks DJ.
One of the things that bugged me about that show was it's irresponsibly giving the impression(the impression I got) that it was all out of our hands when in fact global warming and several of the other potential civilization killers are created by what we do each day and who we elect to regulate and control the reckless and shortsighted behaviors of industry. Humans have become so numerous and their collective industries so powerful that they(we), have the power to destroy the planet in several ways. All it takes is enough ignorance and apathy (lack of rage and action) by the disenfranchised and the continuing of the broken status quo system for the human experiment to run a course to self near-extinction.

Gabbie,
Yes it is easy to become overwhelmed, I have felt that way for decades, nearly a voice in the dark swamp of a society that said that's nice now go find a 'real' job, to help the status quo, or don't bother me. I hope you and others can learn to deal with such things better than I have been able to so far. I just burnt out trying to battle and or find a way out of the earth killing machine, that seems bent on killing my voice and efforts, through censorship, or neglect, when not outright punishing me.

I think it goes beyond his climate change subject and to every instance of group think and propaganda control in all fields that imperil us in his book where Al Gore says;

"The truth about the climate crisis is an inconvenient one that means we are going to have to change the way we live our lives."

Obsessing(worrying) about it doesn't help much but we must still deal with and prevent/solve the problems we face, in many cases collectively when the powers at be want to put it all on the individual when it is the powers at be who are causing the problems. I try to take a breath, find something to have some fun at for a while to calm myself and then get back at it. I wish I was way better at that, perhaps in time.

Good luck, and be well.
