I have been hospitalized about 5 times since 1985 after an accident. I was scared at first, thinking of the move One Flew over the Cooco's nest, but it was not like that soo much. there were some incindences like one where a girl punched me in the back, caught me off guard, and another person got mad because i just asked her if i could change the station on the radio and she punched me in the face, but those were not as bad as some of the things that were happening in the 1980's. Now Hospitals are different, people in the ward are treated very well, you get 3 meals a day and snacks and there is exercise machines and you can watch tv, but the only thing you can't do is smoke. They give you the patch for that. I actually just had a hospital stay about a month ago and did enjoy it and i miss the friends i made this time.

Funny about smoking in England, you carnt smoke inside the grounds anywhere near general hospital. But the mental hospital has its own smoking yard, you carnt ask someone who is mentally ill to just stop smoking that's is unexceptable , that addiction carnt be switched off like a light and would cause major distress .

funny and cool thing is i brought no cigs and anybody would give me a free one if i asked! i think i got lucky there about getting free ones. i mean from other patients. there was a a guy with schizophrenia. hitchhiked from new york to texas.

I know there is a strict schedule and you are busy all day with groups, meetings, doctors, etc. I am 50 years old and never thought in a million years I would ever be considering this. I have been abusing drugs all my life. Now that I am 6 months clean, I have to re-learn everything. My coping skills are not what they should be and I can't think straight out here. I am hoping they will help me with this depression, self esteem, wrong thinking, etc. Any one have any advice?
Go, learn and be honest about what you're feeling and thinking. You're starting over and it's a shock to your system so yes, you need a little 'time out' of the real world to naval gaze. Don't be afraid, no one will hurt you there. They will simply ask questions and depending on how honest you can be with them and yourself, you will be able to see you in a new light. One, that although you're frightened of seeing, is probably much better than you are imagining. Good luck. Just remember - honestly, no shading, honesty.

The person in charge of "watching" us during breaks outside on the patio yelled at me because i wanted a ciggarette, and gave me a lecture on not smoking, and still didn't get anything except the patch-i also think you can't take ciggs from mental patients, but they did. I did seem to cope pretty well although.

Has I have said the cig yard was a drug den, everyone in England that smokes on a budget rolls there own cigs , so to put in heroin was easy no smell like dope. The smack heads that had day release brought it in and they brought me vodka in evian empty bottles easy has pie. I am grateful for the smack boys keeping me alive ,vodka was my only anxierty release, if not I spent the night rolled in a ball in the corridor , sweating detox or sat in shower all night freezing water cascading on me . Did the night staff care did they f*** left me to it.
