Yeah, I am homeless. So what?! I am a decent person and I am not doing anything wrong. Why stare at me? Why sketch my picture?!

At 6am I could clearly see that my day is shot.

I need an "ignore button" for my life.

Isn't it just called human nature? I would be homeless if not for my family taking me in, so I guess I'm lucky/fortunate.

Sometimes when I walk by the Soup Kitchen and see all them ppl, I sometimes wonder if some simply choose that lifestyle? I too am guilty of looking, but I guess I don't stare.

i know what you mean inkblot, whilst sleeping on the streets in london i would read a book so i would not have to interact with the pack rats walking past me everyday and night yet they still didnt get the message and would stop and ask me benign questions, offer me food and drink even if i had some next to me, but the worse thing they could do was stop and take a photo of me from accross the street whilst they thought i wasnt looking, i used to jump up and ask them if they thought i was a tourist attraction and if so i want payment for copywrite for the picture, most had digital cameras so they deleted them whilst i watched.

what most of them fail to realise is they are only one paycheck away from your situation. so next time someone bothers you tell them just that, they wont bother you again

inky, you are a good friend and your life circumstances are not and should not be the fodder of an artist's interest. Ignore and move on. Curiosity, stupidity. I could start en entire thread about this issue. Don't let it spoil your day.

I can only imagine how it must feel to be photographed without your permission. I take camera in hand often to catch daily life, but I would never take a photo of someone without asking permission first.

Some folks are out and out obnoxious it's true, but some folks, really do care and try to educate others about the homeless situation. Maybe if more are educated, there will be less ignorance

The guy was not sketching me because he was an artist. He was clearly concerned that a homeless person was there. This is Chicago. If I said anything to him, he would have immediately called the police. With his little sketch on a piece of scratch paper, he can give it to his boss to call police to file a report of a suspicious person. I know he works at one of the stores in this strip mall. Betchya if I would go back to the same area tonight that the police would be there.

We could all use an ignore button in our lives. For people that judge you, and do stupid %#@&#! like pre sketch you for police reports, just ignore that ignorance......just remember people don't know you nor your situation.

There is a man I call stick that travels around downtown where I go to class. He's homeless and carries a stick because dogs follow him, well I learned from my Soc prof, that he was a very successful lawyer and was married with kids in the suburbia. He once had everything, but caught his wife cheating, and lost everything in divorce court. He's now homeless with a broken heart. I bet people see him and immediately think he is a junkie or drunk, but no that's not that case.

I've been there but only for a couple of days. I'm sorry.
It's really tough, to say the least.
That guy has never had the misfortune of losing everything he owned and being stuck outside with no home to go to. Or anyone who cared enough to take him in.
I hope you find a home to call your own really soon. It's going to start to get cold out.
