I only found and joined this forum a few weeks ago, but everyone is really nice.

I have a psychiatrist appointment Thursday. Hate to say it, but I have been kinda tense and all PTSD-ish for a few weeks. Bad memories of last year. And having a feeling of "this makes me sad", which I haven't had for a while.

I am afraid to bring it up. I desperately do not want a mental health diagnosis associated with my name, it makes me both ashamed and a bit paranoid that I will be outed and my world will crumble. I know, I do in medical records, I hope maybe they are destroyed after a period of time.

But, I don't like the feeling. Not entirely sure I am tough enough to weather it on my own. Maybe I need some mild meds just to take the edge off? Also, I speak very carefully, how should I broach the subject?

Hopefully, you will be able to describe both your symptoms, and your fears re: being given a psychiatric diagnosis. Talking with the pdoc should help ease some of those fears; truly the world will not crumble by naming what is happening. And the pdoc can tell you what will or will not be shared with anyone else. Medications may also help along with non-medical techniques. The more you learn, the better for you. There will be scary times, and there will be times of great relief. You are not alone. Let us know how it goes.

I agree with winter4me. Maybe print the post and take it in with you. Then the doc can address the issues. The only person that can out you is you.
