Its so amazing to me how people's usernames seem to fit them. Some have really formed an online identity around theirs.

I thought this might be interesting to see did you identify with your username before or after picking it? For example, if you are petunia (who i luv tremendously),, did your real time life have lots of flowers in it before, or after did your start to identify with your username? What does your username mean to you?

and yes.. a rose (or petunia) by any other name (or username) is still a rose. Whats in a username? - a poll Whats in a username? - a poll Whats in a username? - a poll

For me...I always identified with mine...i picked my username because a woman at my church told me i remind her of esther in the bible. I was so honored. I always kept it in mind.

I really love where your petunia name came from......not the beautiful flower that I initially thought of......that is even cuter than I imagined.

Everyone knows where my eskielover 11 comes from I have been a lover of my american eskimo dogs for the last 12 years & I now have 11 of them ranging from 11years to 5 months old.

When I joined here, my filly had just been born 2 years ago (Sept 23). Izzy ("Itssabout tyme") became another identity of mine but it hadn't sunk in when I joined here, so stuck with being the american eskimo lover.

When I signed onto Psych Central I was at my wits end...I tried to think of a name that meant something to me...Bethsway was picked because Beth is a nickname of my given name and the way part means this is my way of trying to heal myself...Psych Central is Bethsway of trying to heal my broken brain....lol

I've had two screen names/user names that I've stayed with in all my years of being online. My first one was FynJewl. It came from something my mom used to tell me; "You are not dime store variety. You are a fine jewel" meaning that I shouldn't allow myself to be used or "handled"... mostly by guys. I guess it was one of her ways of instilling morals in me. Whats in a username? - a poll When a jewel is good enough to be in a jewelry store, they are behind glass. Nobody but the serious get to touch. Whats in a username? - a poll But then, that's a different story.

Weeellllll? It turned out that I didn't behave too well online when I had that screen name. Whats in a username? - a poll I won't go into it, though.

When I was away at an AOL chat room party in 3D, my dear husband decided to cancel our account with AOL. When I came back online, again through AOL, I couldn't use that name anymore for some reason... and thinking about it, I didn't want to, either. I wanted to turn a new leaf.

Basically, I got my name from the fact that I was born on a Sunday morning in September. THAT was my main reason for choosing that name, never mind the fact that I was an avid Neil Diamond fan at the time. LOL

Now, I feel more at home with all the variations that have come from SeptemberMorn than what I had with FynJewl. "FynJewl" was a fake (dime store variety), really. As SeptemberMorn, I don't hide who I am anymore... not even my age. LOL As FynJewl, I was 50 and hung out in the Thirtysomething chat room but I acted more like 16! Whats in a username? - a poll I like September/Morn/Mom/Sept/Septie a whole bunch better! Whats in a username? - a poll

I would have called my daughter Sabrina, if I'd had one. I would have preferred Sabrina with no numbers as a user name but that option wasn't available, however, 0805 is my wedding date - the day my life became complete - so it is special to me all the same!

Mine isnt because I have formed and online Identity with it and so on. When I was with SKR as my therapist and one day she had been reading my journals with some peomes and stuff and she started laughing at one spot that struck her as funny. I was basically arguing with myself in trying to firgure out the pros and cons. well I could try this.. yea then just my luck ... but yet... and the "conversation ended in my journal with great I cant even win an arguement with myself. She started laughing at the way I was looking at the pros and cons of the situation and told me - you should write a book you are so comical and what you write makes sense no matter if its in poetry or battling the pros and cons.

I had just started coming out of my denial that I had DID so I looked at her and said - "yea right and what am I going to call it - Me, Myself and I by Who Ever?

She started laughing so hard tears were coming down. I asked her what was so funny. She told me "I can't tell you that now is not the time but when it is time you will know."

Well about 6 months later I found out why she had laughed.. She had been talking to me when I was experiencing the memories of Me, Myself and I. Without knowing there were these three memory pieces I titled in jest a book with the names of those memory pieces. ?Now I saw the humor of the situation.

So when I found Psych Central I decided that my on line name would be "Myself". because without a sense of humor lif ewould be totally rotten to put it nicely. and I also saw a humor side of choosing this name - in being called "Myself" it can be quite comical. For now as some people here have found out it gets comical when posting about myself vs posting to Myself and vice versa. LOL

IDK that my name fits me in other's eyes... it's more of just a symbol for this person who types to you Whats in a username? - a poll I began with SkybDark...as my sky was always very dark. I felt I had the cloud that follows someone around (especially the cartoon character?) I wanted Sky when I joined but it was taken. I didn't know the ins and outs of name choosing and such then.

At one point when I came up for air, I had a clue that I was perhaps provoking a self-fulfilling prophecy, and figured out how to get Sky after all (thus the _ ) I needed to rise above my circumstances, not be clouded by them.

I always loved the higher perspective. I used to love to take photographs from any airplanes I rode in. I was an observer on search and rescue missions (also sampling the terrain, photographing a crash site) What you see when you RISE above a situation/event is so different from the view on the ground. (Think: not seeing the forest for the trees?)

I used to climb the highest trees to the tippy top and allow the wind to blow me around. I would climb on house roofs, garages, whatever to view the world around me. I would continue to find higher and higher surfaces that I could jump from without being hurt, trying to fly and get that feeling of being free in the air. Whats in a username? - a poll

I keep the story of the Eagle alive in my mind...and it's struggles to live (esp when it hits middle age)... how it must rely upon another at that time. How this great bird of the air, with it's exceptional sight can still lose it's focus and die if it refuses help.

The sky encompasses so many things of life....I won't elaborate here, but many of you have shared with me how you feel when visualizing being within the sky, or under the sky...surrounded by the sky... (see creative corner?)

I need the higher perspective, what better view than from the Sky? Someday I will fly away...through the sky!
