there is new evidence that 'lack of motivation', loss of initiative', or what some call just plain 'laziness', is really a malfunction of the brain and not a choice!

here is a link to a scientific article on "lack of motivation"... most interesting since i have suffered with it since the brain damage~

Lack motivation? Blame your brain chemistry

it is an actual chemical malfunction in the brain~! hope you find a way out of yours~ i'm using a brain repair program called Holosync, sold as a therapy by CenterPointe.com

best wishes~
Gus

I have multiple Traumatic Brain Injuries and next to no initiative or "get up and go". If I'm busy today, I'm worn out tomorrow. I need more sleep than most people and my irl friends fuss at me because I don't get things done in the manner or time they approve. I'm not lazy, I'm just tired.

I believe it is a dysfunction and not choice. Without motivation or energy you get lazy. The amount of dopamine does seem to effect all these areas.

I'm well regarded by everyone that knows me as being pathologically lazy and slack in general.

I have ADHD though, and people with ADHD can be very lazy with tasks/chores etc/

For example, haven't shaved for weeks. Looks scruffy,. but can't be bothered shaving.

Room messy, everything messy.

I don't really do much constructive. Avoid effort unless I am absolutely obliged to do something.

Also fat. So fat AND lazy

Part of me wonders if this is just another excuse for lazy people... but on the other hand, I am one of those lazy people. It takes so much effort to do anything most days. It'd be great if there is more research on this. Imagine coming up with an anti-laziness pill!

In regards to motivation, stimulants (amphetamine like) drugs like Ritalin or Dexamphetamine (typically used for ADHD) are known to dramatically increase motivation, at least in many people, but maybe not all

Even in primary school, all my report cards, you can constantly see comments such as "does not complete the work", "careless errors". I have always been well known to not stick to things.

My report cards always said comments such as I am not applying myself enough, and I am not reaching my potential etc.

Lack of motivation I could say is the predominant number #1 symptom I have experienced consistently throughout my whole life time.
