I can't get onto chat !!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Recently went through this same problem... and did all that sounds like you are trying. I ended up reloading Java... the newest version is Java 2 I think... Question, did you recently update your IE? I personally think it's connected to a "disconnect" with the newest version of Explorer.

I am a "computer professional" and had this problem, too. I could not figure it out and it was very irritating. I tried from another computer and it worked fine. My suspicion is some popup or ad killer I have had and removed caused permanent damage to Internet Explorer. No way do I want to reinstall Windows XP to fix this! Horrors! The quest turned to finding a new browser for this computer, one that did not inherit IE's problem.

I found the answer. Mozilla Firefox. It is a killer browser. It runs so fast that it is like I doubled my computer and DSL speeds. Very cool, and an easy install. It does not replace IE, but you can make it your default browser, or not, while you try it out.

Did I say it fixed my psychocentral problems? Yes, it did.

They also have free Outlook Express alternative called Thunderbird that removes spam. I tried it and it looks good, but I have too much investment in Outlook's email archives to abandon it easily.

If you have tried Mozilla itself and did not like it, this is different. It is in no way a Netscape clone.
