Anyone out there familar with the "Highland Pipes", this piece is simply beautiful Last summer it became a tradition, I encouraged (not pushed) my son to play as the day melted into the early night
Now, when I hear it chills run up my spine, such a beautiful piece, especially when you can hear it echo in the mountains in your (almost) back yard

"proud mom"? yeah, why not?

Love to you all,
DE

Your post made me smile. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing that particular one as I recall, but I may have to keep an eye out for it. It does sound beautiful.

Oh yeah! Hubby is Scottish and has a cousin that plays the pipes professionaly. When we lived out in the sticks years ago, this cousin was in a competition here in S. Calif. He would go out on the back deck and practice in the early evenings. We had a hill in the back of our property and the sound would bounce back at us. The accoustics were wonderful and most of the neighbors enjoyed it. Several asked us what had happened to our pipe music after Bob left. Mist On The Mountain

Just got done practicing myself. I do enjoy playing a great deal. Course I'm of Scottish descent. My family was largely tossed out Scotland during the clearances and came to the U.S. and Canada. I'm not familiar with Mist on the Mountain. Could it be the Mist covered Mountains? That was a favorite of JFK and was played at his funeral IIRC.

Taking a gamble here, but if it is the Mist Covered Mountains, I thought you might like to read the lyrics, they're pretty good.

MIST COVERED MOUNTAINS OF HOME

Hoo, ho, soon shall I see them
O! He ho see them, O see them
O! Ho ro soon shall I see them
The mist covered mountains of home

There I shall visit the place of my birth
And they'll give me a welcome the warmest on earth
All so loving and kind and full of music and mirth
In the sweet sounding language of home

There I shall gaze on the mountains again
On the fields and the woods and the burns in the glen
And away among the corries beyond human ken
In the haunts of the deer I shall roam
