Hi, I want to see a counselor. But my insurance won't pay unless I am diagnosed with OCD, Bipolar, Major Depressive Disorder, PTSD, Schizophrenia, or Anxiety.

Seriously, the ones which I might get diagnosed with are PTSD, OCD, or Anxiety. I can't see getting any of those others.

Will any of these diagnosis come back to haunt me later in life?

Thanks,

HourHand.

I know that if you are trying to buy personal insurance and you are bipolar they will turn you down. As long as you have group coverage you will be fine.

And if you try to immigrate into this country from another, and have been diagnosed with any of those illnesses, they will turn you down, unless you can prove that for 15 years, you're healthy (body and mind)....go figure. Not sure how it works from here to somewhere else.

Thank you for your replies, I thought there would be some negative ramifications for being diagnosed. Sheesh. All I want to do is talk to a counselor. What a bummer.

This is no longer true. As of 2014 with the ACA insurance companies can not refuse to accept you into an insurance company because you have a preexisting condition.

Anxiety, won't haunt you. Don't know about the others. Your insurance, won't even approve, an initial testing/screening?
