Hi all
I haven't posted in a while. Idon't know if this is in the right place, I am just trying to find out if a person that has had major depression can they become a social worker? I know the job can be very stressful. The depression is under control, I am no longer on anti depressants and feel very good about myself. i would really like to help other people but am worried that my previous depression might count against me. Any help from anyone will be appreciated Thanks all Scorpio |

Yes, you can do anything... you will be suprised to find that most people who end up working with other people have had a lot of pain and hurt and mental issues in their lives, they therefore understand other people's pain and hurt so much better. Don't let your deppression haunt, if you are better then put it behind you like any illness and move on... All jobs a stressful in a unique way... Deppression is not a sign of weakness and incompetence anymore than cancer is... Why not ask someone who do hiring and firing of social workers if they would hypothetically one day hire you despite the deppression?
