We're approaching our 4,000th member here at our growing community, and I'd like to make things a little interesting for two folks. So I thought, what they hey, let's run a little contest just for fun!

A Little Contest Just for Fun!

The contest is simple. Be the person responsible for bringing in our 4,000th member, and both you and the 4,000th member will win a copy of the latest edition of my book, The Insider's Guide to Mental Health Resources Online. Just published, it goes for about $17 at Amazon.com new, so it apparently is worth something! A little contest just for fun!

Now maybe you're saying, Hey, DocJohn, how do I bring in new members? After all, the only folks I know are already here!!

Good question.

I imagine this will call for a little creativity on your part, going to other online communities perhaps, telling folks that maybe you wouldn't ordinarily share with, or some other devious methods. Don't do anything unethical or breaking any other community's rules to try and win, but I leave it up to you how you go about finding others to encourage them to join.

When we've reached our 4,000th member, claim your prize by sending me a PM to let me know you brought in that person. I'll verify it with that person and you both get your free books in the mail!

In addition...

The person who brings in the most new members from now until we reach our 4,000th member will also receive a free copy of the book. After we reach the 4,000th member, if you've brought in more than 5 members, I'd ask that you send me (via PM) a list of all of their registered usernames. The person who I can confirm brought in the most new members will win the book.

C'mon, it's for fun!!

While I would like everyone to win, that's not going to happen. But I'm doing this just for fun, so please play fair. Don't do anything immoral or unethical to win one of these contests. Don't go to Yahoo and register 20 free email addresses just to win (not to mention, it'll be a little suspicious if I saw that *every* new member you brought in came from the same free email service!). Play fair, have fun, and may the best person win!!

DocJohn

PS - The books will be autographed and carry a personalized inscription to you. I'm not sure that's an incentive or disincentive, so I'll let you decide!

PPS - If this goes well, I'll run additional little contests like this just for fun from time to time in the future. There's a lot of people here who deserve the chance to win!! A little contest just for fun!

Interesting idea, Doc. And to your behalf, I might add that your book is worth something simply because you wrote it. A little contest just for fun! Really, it is a valuable book. I first saw it at the book store several years ago and for some reason your name stuck in my head. When I first came upon PsychCentral and saw your name, I thought, "Hey! I know that name!" I never have bought the book, but I do at least page through it at least once or twice a year. I've thought about buying the book, but I've had some pretty severe financial times. The book is very interesting and surely an autographed copy will make the addition (or is it edition?) to anyone's personal library even better!
