The hard drive in my laptop went bye bye the other day and I am on daughter's computer now which has a sticky space bar. Words get stuck together. A few warnings here, thisiswhat I have learned.
1. If you buy from ebay you are probably going to get pireted copies of Xp on your machines.2. If you don't backup you loose your life digital style. 3. Don't assume that the kids are "OLD enough" I found so much filth and spywear and addware on this computer of daughter's That it scared me. Curled my hair. No un supervised computer for her for a LONG time.

Does anyone know why the space bar is sticky? Oh well, there are worse things.

Now, what exactly do you mean by 'sticky" bar?

If you mean that the response time to your spacing is delayed... is anything else also delayed meaning she may have a setting for it that way... or the mouse setting might be set too high and it's affecting some other elements.

I assumed you meant this since obviously you know how to wipe jelly off a space bar The passing of the hard drive and BACKUP!

Well, yes, I suppose I could wipe jelly off her space bar but the issue is I tap it while typing and then look back to see no space between words. I looked at settings and then I did the old tried and true, shook it upside down. Let's see if that works. I am on a mac right now that is great with ethernet but not very fast wireless. So as long as I am down stairs I am fine. I may tried some canned air on daughters IBM. Alas, when did it all get so complicated? My laptop is fixed and ready, new hard drive.. The guy said he could not believe how fast it was. Well, I told him Dell is not all it's cracked up to be and that is one awesome IBM. It's funny how everyone has an opinion because I prefer mac except for the fact that with the Mac we have the wireless is too slow and I use it in bed a lot. Get you minds outa the gutter, I recline in a comfortable position in bed to do my computing.

You know you are old when you and your spouse are both reading the news online at night in bed. It is actually really funny. What he doesn't know is that his Mac is ever so slow wireless compared to mine so let's not tell him.

May my hard drive rest in peace, and take my secrets with it.

Sounds like she may have spilled something on it and it has dried down inside. Could have been a pop as they do become sticky after they dry!! My Mom did this to her phone one time and it messed it up!!

Yes, we never know what these kids are up to when they are out of our sight. Good for you for being concerned.

Good luck to you and by the way, I won't tell hubby about your's being faster. Hee Hee!!

Oh, what he doesn't know won't hurt him. I guess I will try to clean out this space bar as my computer is not coming home till friday and I have been ill with pain and now a bug so am spending all I can in bed. thus, the wireless. I do fall in love with my machines. They do so much for me and let me communicate with the outside world.
