Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of "The Maker's Diet"

Let the Sunshine In....
Sunlight and fresh air can make your special spot even more sacred. Choose a place near a window, so you can breathe fresh air, soak up the sun, and be inspired by the sights out your window while you reflect.

Create a Sanctuary

Is there a place in your home where you can always go to pray, write, or just sit quietly and reflect on your day? Our homes are full of high-stress zones. If you need to get away, don't hide in a noisy TV room or a cluttered entryway. Create a space that's just for you.

Whether it's in a bedroom or another quiet corner, choose a spot that's away from the high-traffic areas in your home. Then make it yours. Partition it off with a screen or a large plant. Paint the area a different color. Give yourself a comfortable place to sit, write, or pray. Use this area for your morning and evening prayers, your journaling sessions, or just as a place to consider the accomplishments and challenges of your day.

Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long.

Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of The Maker's Diet

Get Your Hands Dirty:
Planning a garden is more than just a way to occupy an afternoon. You'll create a peaceful place to sit, think, or even grow your own pesticide-free vegetables and herbs. But leave your gloves in the shed. Digging and weeding with your bare hands will expose you to millions of healthy soil organisms.

* * * * * * *

Don't Be Afraid of Dirt

Parents do everything they can to keep their kids from getting dirty, but in reality, our environment is much too clean! Immune cells that are not exposed to naturally occurring soil microbes tend to overreact when they finally come in contact with them. Too many adults and children have been denied this much-needed exposure. The immune systems of children and adults are overreactive because they are no longer being properly "educated" on the biological playground of life.

To make matters worse, we oversterilize everything with disinfectant dishwashing, hand soaps, and shower gels; disinfectant body lotions and skin bars; and "deodorant soaps" loaded with antibiotic disinfectants such as triclosan. And we sterilize our soil using pesticides and herbicides that destroy beneficial and harmful microbes alike. These substances harm the immune systems of all living things, including the very plants we try to "improve" with our technological advancements.

Our immune systems need regular exposure to naturally occurring soil organisms for long-term health! If I child isn't exposed to soil organisms early in life, his or her immune system may seriously overreact when exposed to completely benign intruders later in life. Loosing touch with our planet has had an unfortunate consequence: It has contributed to the development of allergies, autoimmune diseases, and certain types of asthma in children and adults alike.

From the author of The Maker's Diet

Soak Away the Stress:
A warm bath can be a great way to destress. Keep your bathroom stocked with items for a peaceful bath — essential oils and herbs for aromatherapy, bath salts, or books and magazines.

* * * * * * *

Strategies for Stress Relief

How do you destress? Do you write in a journal, do some gentle relaxation exercises, or read a good book? Develop a list of strategies you use to keep yourself anxiety-free. You can even include things you'd like to try in the future, and things that you don't do often — like getting a massage or taking a vacation.

Update this list as your needs and tastes change, and cross off strategies when they stop working for you. Keep this list where you can find it easily. Carry it in your purse or briefcase, or stick it on your refrigerator. When you feel anxious, sad, or worried, go down the items on this list one at a time until you find one that makes you feel better.

Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of The Maker's Diet

He Who Laughs Last…
On second thought, reverse that! Always be the person who laughs first. Laughter is the social glue that holds our society together. Laughter creates a ripple effect of good vibrations and positive feelings. People who are able to laugh at themselves or the world around them often put others at ease. Whether at work or in a social situation, be the person who laughs first. It's good for your (and everyone else's) health!

* * * * * * *

The Healing Power of Laughter

The Bible tells us, "A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones" (Proverbs 17:22). In his book What You Don't Know May Be Killing You, Dr. Don Colbert noted that research conducted by the Department of Behavioral Medicine at the UCLA Medical School into the physical benefits of happiness proved conclusively that "laughter, happiness, and joy are perfect antidotes for stress." Colbert added, "A noted doctor once said that the diaphragm, thorax, abdomen, heart, lungs — and even the liver — are given a massage during a hearty laugh."

Look for ways to laugh more! It could be just what the doctor ordered.…

Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of The Maker's Diet

Attack the Three I's Today!
Start a personal assault on the three i's today by avoiding artificial sweeteners, refined carbohydrates, sugar, and caffeine. When you eliminate these elements from your diet, your body begins to detoxify and restore itself.

* * * * * * * *

Advice for Healthy Living

The Three I's

The Maker's Diet is designed to attack the three i's — insulin, infection, and inflammation. By balancing insulin, you stabilize blood sugar, sharpen concentration and enhance your mood, resulting in improved physical, mental, and emotional health. By reducing infection, you can lessen the toxic burden placed on your body from your daily contact with germs. By lessening inflammation, you can reduce aches and pains and decrease risk factors for such illnesses as heart disease and cancer. By attacking these three i's, you can improve appearance and enhance energy, and you can begin to reverse the process of accelerated aging and live life the way you were meant to live it.
