My oldest sister, who is 3 years older than I am has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Now I'm more afraid than ever because both of my parents definitely had Alzheimer's....autopsies proved it. I Just Found Out!

Oh, Susan, I'm so sorry!!! It's time to start doing what it takes to hold it at bay if not make it go away completely. It scares the heck out of me, too!

Hello Ozzie. Sorry to hear about your sister. I hope your sister is capable of getting medical treatment that may help her for at least a while, and try to keep your mental health safe as well. I hope the best for you and your family Ozzie. Take care Sincerely Soidhonia

Hello Susan,

You poor thing. What a terrible thing to find out. I am so sorry.
Talk to your doc about this. Since your sister now has it, you need to find out if there is anything that you can do now to prevent it from happening to you.
Good luck,
Linda

There is ongoing research, but this site has good stuff about nutrients you can take now to at least delay the onset (if any.)

You know, in my big family... everyone has something different...none of us have anything the other has really... which to me proves it's all about where and how you live, what you eat, etc.

TC!

So sorry to hear that. Be sure to get regular check ups just in case you will fall under the hereditary diagnoses as well. Be careful.

Thank you everyone for the support. I work hard to learn new things and keep my mind active. I hope that helps me. My sister is only 3 years older than I am.

I also take Vitamin E daily which is supposed to help. In addition to so much Alzheimer's in the family, we also have plenty of Cancer. So far I've been lucky with that one.

After watching both of my parents go through Alzheimer's I fear it the most. My younger sister who has so much lung trouble said she doesn't fear Alzheimer's because she doesn't think she will live long enough to have to worry about it. She's probably right.

How are you holding up ((((ozzie)))) ????

You know, recent studies have proved other thoughts wrong about growing new brain cells. WE CAN develop new brain cells... the very act of TRYING to learn something difficult (such as a foreign language) creates new ones... you don't have to LEARN the thing, just the act of trying is what developes them!

Now what else are you going to learn this week??? ((((hugs)))))
