I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but somehow, over time, I have developed an aversion to the sun. It started a few years ago, when my eyes felt more sensitive, and I couldn't find glasses dark enough. Now that spring has come, the first day some sunlight came through the shades, I felt instant anxiety coming on. My face was burning hot, like I would imagine a sunburn would feel (never had one), my eyes hurt, I felt like tearing my shirts off, and did, and I was wanting to go and hide somewhere dark. Either that or cover the windows with trash bags, which my spouse would never allow.
Months and months ago, I was actually feeling depressed, and my Dr suggested as a last resort kind of thing to try one of those SAD lamps. I tried it several times and it burned me like the sun, and made me manic. I passed it on to my spouse who always claims that it's too dark in here. I also have crippling anxiety that keeps me inside 98& of the time. I can't go outside alone at any other time but the morning when it is dark. Anybody have the opposite of SAD? Or does it sound like something else? ![]()

I've never heard of the reverse of SAD, but I'm not a therapist. You may want to google it to see what you find.
I see you mentioned PTSD, I'm wondering if your aversion to the sun has anything to do with your past trauma. |

Have you seen an eye doctor and a medical doctor about this? I think you should rule out any physical issues before taking on the emotional issues this problem is causing you.

I agree that you should have your problem checked out by an MD. My daughter (she's now 28) felt as you do - she had a tremendous aversion to the sun (and we live in California). She also battles severe anxiety. She could remain in dimly-lit rooms for days and days. Finally she began to feel unwell, so she saw her MD and had bloodwork done. Turned out she was dangerously low in both D and B vitamins. Her doctor put her on large doses of D and B vits & she felt better within a few days. She's still not a huge sun-lover, but she actually enjoys walks outside now.
