Just as I suspected. If you are mentally ill in Arkansas you are pretty much out of luck. Last I heard we had 3 mental health hospitals and they are all in LIttle Rock. The 2 we had up here in my neck of the woods closed. We have a couple for youth but none for adults. I am hoping that this changes with the new governor but I am not holding my breath.

Kansas has a big fat "F".......no surprises there. Definitely in the bottom class of citizens if you have any kind of need for mental help.

California got a C, but I have no idea why. Should've been an F!

I got a D, horrible! People focus too much on people who are too lazy and can do it on their own, Autism with help these kids will be fine, Diabities, with testing and diets it can improve, etc. You hardly hear about help for Mental Health issues. Or things like Lupus. They are all important but you CANNOT favor one over another!

Yeah, Kentucky got an "F". That is no surprise for anyone who lives here with mental health issues. One of the urgent needs was inpatient beds. There are 20 beds tops for a 10 county area. That is a large area with the fastest growing city in the state and a large university.

Seems FL also ranks low on mathematical education as the chart shows 2 D's a D+ and a C- and rates the State overall as a "C" Grading States on Mental Health Care

Wisconsin got a B-, which is about right, based on the care I've had over the last decade or so I've lived here. Don't everybody rush to move here because of it, though. Grading States on Mental Health Care

Indiana got a D-. I volunteer for NAMI so I see & hear about the lack of care for the mentally ill. I'm one of the "lucky" (if anyone with a mental illness is lucky) ones who has private ins., but of course, they are trying to deny my meds, force me to change docs, etc. to save money. I've had to fight them & my doc has, too, to continue with her care (been with her 5 years now) & continue on the meds that have helped so much.

I also volunteer in the women's jail here locally. There are many women who have been diagnosed with a mental illness & are not receiving the proper medication. The psychiatrist comes in only once a month. There are some really caring therapists, but they can't prescibe meds. I don't know what would have become of me if I didn't have the doc & meds I have now--I could be there in jail, too.--Suzy
