I think my parents are dying. My dad is an alcoholic. NOT ABUSIVE!! My mom is obese. This means they both have things that will cause there lives to be shortened. This is a real concern because I have GAD. and adhd, and ocd, but thats not totallly important.

Hello zie106, alcoholics and people who are overweight can live a very long time. It does not necessarily mean that they are both about to die. Remind yourself this when that thought pops in your head. Hugs

My uncle is actually overweight and an alcoholic, he turned 73 this year. I was fishing with him a few days ago.

As someone once told me many years ago, "Only God himself knows exactly when he is going to call somebody home." Try to remember that, and live your life to the fullest.

I agree with Hiddenfriend: not all alcoholics are falling down drunks. Some (many in fact) are very high functioning. The alcohol is, of course, affecting their physical bodies but not necessarily in the same way as a non or low-functioning alcoholic.

Everyone will die of something. The drinking and obesity are not in themselves direct killers, they just put pressure on the body and any weaknesses may be in danger. That is the case of just living, even if we could live a perfect life, wear-and-tear on using our body would wear it out (athletes with arthritis, for example; look at Joe Namath, for example).

Hi, welcome to PC ... It's understandable to be concerned about family and especially if you have issues with anxiety yourself ... are your concerns something you've talked about with your parents?
