Hi butterfly
Not sure if you mind talking this way. Hope not. I'll take the chance. pm me if so. my father has tourette and he takes klonapin/chlorazapam. He didn't get diagnosed until the mid 70's. They used numerous drugs on him before finding klonapin. He can take up to 8mg but usually takes up to 4mg. His physical symptoms are twitching and throaty mucusy sounds. But what bothers him most are the symptoms we cant see. Such as anxiety which is brought on by heat, flu, cold and many more . He calls it "Jiggy". He also cant do more than one thing at a time. ie cant talk to him while balancing the checkbook or driving or reading. Anything that takes his concentration. He has managed to work all his life and have a family. He also has OCD (but doesn't know it) That is very obvious. Checking things many times. None of us have TS. I wondered if my 12 year old daughter would have it. Apparently the onset is 5-7 years. How is your family member doing? What are his symptoms? My father is a perfectionist and repeats himself quite a bit. Dont know if its related but I think it is because it's beyond "normal" behaviour. I'm interested in the younger family member were telling me about. I feel for him as children can be cruel. I wonder do people with TS have ADD/ADHD as children? I would love to read what you have to say. Willoughby "you only have one chance to make a first impression"

Hi,
It's so funny that I saw your post. I was just talking about my son and his tourettes. Well, he hasn't been diag. yet but my real grandfather, long story, has tourettes and we were suprised to see the same movements in my grandfather that we had been seeing in my son. The short version..................Well, my mom hasn't known her father at all. He left her life when she was two. So, one day she got a letter from her cousin about 6 years ago at the age of almost 50 years old. This cousin had always been in contact with her father. She sent my mom some pictures of her father from 2 years old on up. She told her that she could contact him if she wanted to and gave his address and phone #. Well, of couse she didn't contact him. She then showed me the picture of my grandfather at the age of two and I just about FELL OVER. At the time my youngest son was 4 years of age and the picture she showed me of her father at the age of two was..........................an IDENTICAL match!! They could have been twins!! It was SCARY!! I took the letter and pictures home with me. I knew I had his phone # so...............................I called my mom and asked her if it was ok with her if I contacted him as his grandaughter. She said that was fine but I think she thought I was going to write him a letter. I called him!! Told him who I was and.....................bascially the rest is history. Him and his wife have come to see all of us and my mom finally understands why she never had her REAL father there for her all this time. They have worked things out, thank goodness. Sorry for my rammbling but I wanted you to know that I also have a son that has tourettes. Hard to get diag. but all the signs are there. After meeting and spending time with my real granfather, I now know why my youngest son has a problem with ticking the way he does. Finally having my grandfather back in our live was a blessing in alot of ways. Life is funny, ya know? LOL You can also pm me if you'd like. Love, Wendy |
