I hope she feels better and better. Please remind her that the nursing home is not forever if she works at healing... ahem... but then again... you know, it can be something that works out for the best all around.

Jan, my mom was alone (she chose to live far away) and she went to a rehab facility after surgery because she couldn't be alone. She went home from there.

Be good to you, Jan! Trust the caregivers there and be there as much as you can; let them do the hard work, and you enjoy your time with your Mom!

Thinking of you in these hard times! My Mom

You need a good day for just you, a breather. If you take one occasionally it helps clear out the mind, if you don't you overwhelm. I went through similar situations with my Grandmother. She one day explained to me before she got to bad that she will expect me to take a day here and there for myself, and that she would understand. It's very helpful. I worry about you, I hope your Mom going to a good nursing home will help you out.

Thank you and that's a wonderful idea. It's sane and sensible. Having the shots in my knees has kept me away from the hospital since Thursday. I talked to Mom on the phone yesterday and Friday but I couldn't walk well enough to go see her. I am not to go until Monday, the day she'll be transfered to the nursing home.

I do need some time for me. I haven't had any since Christmas Eve, the day she went to the hospital.

Hugs,

Jan

Oh Jan,

Then you are definitely due for a little time to yourself. When our loved ones become ill, we tend to forget about ourselves and our needs.
But, it is at those times, that we need to take care of yourselves the most.
I hope you can find the time to take for yourself and sort of get rejevenated?
Good luck and keep us posted!!
Hugs,
Linda

Thank you. I've been fighting not to take a pain pill. I may have to. If I can just make myself not fall asleep before 9 p.m., I should wake up early tomorrow and get started. Not being able to do anything but sit since Friday has left me very much behind...

(I'm picturing a gerbil running on a wheel.)

My brother and niece want to throw my Mom's fish out. Since I bought them and have become attached to them I said, "No way!". They've had to feed the fish this weekend. I'll take over tomorrow and hopefully we will have no more talk of that.

I was asked to go clean everything out of Mom's fridge today and seperately asked to go feed the fish today. I shocked myself by saying, "No." I'm not supposed to be walking outside this tiny apt until tomorrow and I'm not going to be any help to myself or anyone else if I ruin my knees.

I didn't mean to write a book in reply. Thanks for everything.

Hugs,

Jan

I'm glad you're taking care of yourself...and remember even if it's your "turn" ...if you can't you can't... be sure to say so!

Guess what? I took the nap. I gave up at the third phone call though, so I should be able to still go to sleep early. I'm also going to go get a pain pill. I've only taken one and that was Friday night so there is no way I'm taking too many of them.

Thank you all for noticing I stood up for myself. It's so hard for me, especially when I know the rest of my family is struggling to help Mom, too.

Thank you, my friends.

Hugs,

Jan

Oh Jan,
Good for you! I am so very proud of you for standing up for yourself. They have no right to ask you to do things knowing you are struggling yourself
I do hope you can get a good nights sleep with no interruptions and be able to function tomorrow.
Just remember, you have to take care of yourself first and then the rest will fall into place.
Family can sometimes be cruel when it comes to them having to "inconvenience " themselves. I don't know if this is true in your family, but it was in mine.
Wow, I am just sooooo proud of you for standing up to them!!
Way to go!!
Please let us know how it goes tomorrow for you. Don't overdo!!
Hugs,
Linda
