Today they decided my Mom will have to go to a nursing home next week for rehabilitation. I can't lift her because of my chest injury and she can't walk or stand up by herself.

She doesn't want anyone to stay with her in her house. She likes her independence and the Drs said she cannot return home without more physical therapy. She's better in some ways and worse in others and I've never known anyone who improved in a nursing home.

My Dr discovered I have Osteo Arthritis today which was a horrible shock. Then he took water off one knee and put cortizone shots in both of them. I have orders that I cannot go see Mom until Sat., and only then if someone will drive me to the door of the hospital and drop me off and then pick me up at the door. I'm hobbling along with a quad cane and holding onto the wall. There is no one to stay with me.

I want off this merry-go-round. It's just making me dizzy and sick.

PS. I do want to thank all of you for your good wishes and prayers. Please keep them coming. I feel like I'm sending my Mom to her death...

Hi..I don't know what she is needing rehab for but my mom went to rehab cuz I couldn't take care of her after her total knee replacement.She did great!She was home within 10 days,and she has congestive heart failure.

I also have a friend whose 86 year old grandmother went to rehab for a fractured pelvis. She refused rehab so long they put her in the nursing home section and that made her start working to go home, which she did.She was rather ornery....

So try not to think you are sending your mom to her death... it doesn't have to be that way....people do get better....I'll keep you and your mom both in my prayers....prayers for healing....have hope...

my grandad who is well into his 80's now went into rehab for 3 weeks after a succession of strokes before he was transfered to my step mothers house, they said he would not make it past xmas, he is still alive and bit.ching now 4 years later, so dont be so hard on yourself

also i would put of if you can the visit on saturday, leave it til monday to give your legs a chance to heal or at least to stop hurting

oh sweetheart. i wish i could help. at least give you a hug in person. please please please try to be gentle with yourself and remember that you will be more help to your mom if you spend some time taking care of yourself too and making sure you are healthy.

I am doing better this morning concerning Mom. I can't help what is. I can work to make what is the best that I can get it. I can go in the mornings to check on her and my brother and neice can go in the evenings.

I managed to have a migraine last night, but I did get a little bit of sleep last night for which I am very grateful.

I'm sorry your under so much stress dealing with both you and your mothers health...it's difficult enough to deal with your own. The merry go-round unfortunatley will not stop, but maybe to slow it down and take a breather will help. Don't forget about yourself.

Thank you each and every one. My brother gave the hospital people 4 choices and only those 4 will do. None have open beds right now, so Mom will stay in the hospital for at least one more day.

The good news is that her kidneys are working on their own today.

My Mom has been accepted at the really good nursing home with the rehab center. She is scheduled to be transferred on Monday. If she has to be in one, it's the best available.
