It sounds like a new form of identity theft. It seems like a strange new world some days.

Sorry this happened to you.

That is one intensely rude awakening. It is disturbing that these sickos don't care who they hurt so long as they can satisfy their deviant perversions. If you are certain you have nothing illegal & incriminating on your hard drive that you yourself brought in then I would highly recommend that you contact a watchgroup like the folks that do those Dateline "stings". I think the group is called "Perverted Justice" and you should IMO contact them immediately so they can seek out the individual(s) behind this and also show your speedy response in clearing yourself from any ties to this unfortunate situation. Doing "nothing" about it and hoping it will just go away may not be in your best interest.

Sorry to hear of your situation and good luck in the "clean up" process.

Peace to you.

OMG!!

That's horrific! Why would someone be so cruel. Or, is it a matter of identity theft of your name and addy to run an illegal site. Either way, it's down right sick.

I do hope that you will be able to find the perpetrator. They need to be punished severely.

Hugs to You.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I agree you should contact someone and let them know. Maybe they can hunt them down for you.

Who was hosting the site that you could shut it down? Google doesn't have sites? (other than free "blogs" at blogger.com?). If you had just gotten an e-mail then I'd think it was just a random "junk" piece of scam but I guess it's possible for people to use a random email address to create a free site. I can't understand how you'd be able to "shut it down" though? you wouldn't know the password. (I have a free blogger.com site).

Whatever it was, it wasn't "you" so I wouldn't worry about it (unless it used your "real" name/address). It's not like your friends/relatives would be looking there and the very few other people looking have no clue who "you" are so what does it matter? That's why I have some paid-for accounts; the "free" ones (GMail/Google's) are too likely to be messed with.

i am not computer "savvy"......three years ago, i woke up to hear my computer dialing out. i had gone to sleep with the internet connection off and music playing. it was 4:30 a.m. i got up and searched my house and turned the computer completely off.

the next day i found out that an e.mail had gone out to everyone in my mail address book that was not written by me. i had to write to everyone and tell them that i did not write the e.mail. i turned the information over to a webmaster (hotmail) and the culprit was found and found rather easily. but that was just a matter of hacking into my hotmail.

i'd do as Breezer suggested.....pat

Perna: I don't know much about computers but called somebody from my class who did and he said he's "shut it down" and if you go there now it just says u can't access the site.
I don't know if google has sites og blogs or whatever, but it existed and even that makes me sick. The boy from my class said it might just be a joke since the page wasn't well protected and usually a page like that would, and it was very amateur like.
It was hosted by something called ripway webhosting. The mail was just from a google address, it might not have been from google itself, and I couldn't send an email back. I will ask the webmaster at school tomorrow and see what to do. I don't know where to report something like that.

Breezer:
" I think the group is called "Perverted Justice" and you should IMO contact them immediately so they can seek out the individual(s) behind this and also show your speedy response in clearing yourself from any ties to this unfortunate situation."

How do I contact them breezer?

Perna: Yes it used my real name, my full name, which unfortunately isn't hard to find since it was the first part of my email address. The other reason it scares me is because it might be someone I know who did this. The last school I went to there was a group of boys and a girl who liked to "tease" me, especially by sexually harassing me and sending out "proof" that I slept with other girls and little boys. They still call me sometimes and have been spaming my email. It would be like them to do something like this, and they know about computers. It scares me if it's them.

Should I contact the police?

I would contact the FBI & the police. Between the two of them, I bet they can help you out. I don't know how someone could do this, but I'm not very sophisticated about computers. You should definitely have someone check to see if there is porn on your hard drive, as you could be arrested if it is the illegal kind.

Scary story.--Suzy

I don't think you could/can catch whoever did it or even figure out who it was with any certainty and speculating would just make me more upset. If your name is "common" and known, it could have been a lucky guess on your email or a random pick, etc. I wouldn't take it personally, even if you think it was old "friends" trying to get at you; I wouldn't let it get at me. It's online, not real world, and I take some comfort in that. No one knows it was "you" other than perhaps whoever did it and yourself. Most comforting to me is that no one who knows you and cares about you thinks the site was yours/made by you! Hang on to that real fact. I would just think of it as if someone who didn't like you in the real world said to you, "Your mother wears combat boots!" She doesn't (an assumption on my part :-) so it's more or less a meaningless thing. It's not a credit card or anything "important" -- isn't really about "you" at all.

You're right Perna, I'll try to think of it that way, and since no officers have knocked on my door yet, maybe they won't come at all.
I'll have someone check for illegal porn on my computer tomorrow. Probably a good idea. Thanks Suzy.
I think I'll ask someone with knowledge of computers if the people behind it can be found. Even if they aren't out to get me, they are still doing a sick disgusting thing that should be stopped!

You may consider calling the police. There is a possibility this could escalate into something much more serious. Just something to consider. I hope it works itself out for you. Take care.

I had a new credit card number stolen online and used to download porn and it ended up being a funny story. It's possible the credit card and the porn site were in cahoots but anyway, we get the bill and all that was on this new card (mine, not my husband's) was that I had downloaded something called "Barnyard Girls." I am female and happily married and was in my 50's so we still joke about that one. When my husband called the credit card people they got ridiculous with, "how do you know the cardholder didn't buy this?" and my husband had to do an exaggerated, "because SHE (using my very female name) is my WIFE and our children are GROWN," etc. It took a couple tries for my husband to get the credit card cancelled, etc. he'd gotten it because it was a good rate or something. The incident didn't affect our credit history or anything.

There are no "police" on the Internet at all and buying/downloading porn and creating porn sites, etc. is, unfortunately, "legal." Every now and then the Federal government (US only so if you're in some other country you can do whatever you please since the Internet is not "owned" by any entity) cracks down using various laws but they don't work that hard at it especially if it's not child pornography. Local police would be useless because they have nothing to do with the Internet, there is no "local" about the Internet, it's galactic. There's no jurisdiction unless you're a US site and some US Federal agency wants to do something about it (FBI) but they only do something if it's hurting lots of people they won't do something about a "personal"/individual situation.

IS, that is a horrible thing to happen, and i am sorry you were a victim of such nasty things. this just shows the evilness the internt can be if used wrong.

the people who did this CAN be traced, there are things called IP Addresses, that can be traced. each computer has a unique IP Address, which your internet service providersw ill know belongs to you, so you could prove it wasnt you that created the site and, eventually, prove who did create it. if you contacted the police, they will inform the approapriate squad and they can investigate where and who started this site.

the people behind this should be punished, its sick and cruel, joke or not!

good luck IS, and please get in touch with your police as soon as possible.

Simon is absolutely right....the IP address will tell what computer the jerk used to create this terrible thing. There are records of IP addresses, and timestamping etc that they can get from the servers and/or hubs that the site was created on.

Best of luck to you and please don't let anything to chance. Follow up on this with your local police and let them take care of the problem!

It may not be so easy because some Internet providers (like mine) change your IP address every time you log into the Internet.

But I hope it won't go unpunished in your case. It's really disgusting even if it was a joke.

Good luck!

I would definitely file a police report. This is a form of identity theft, and the more reports they have the better they will learn how to help with it. Plus, should anything in the future occur, it will look bad if you hadn't reported this (then) previous problem to the police. Yes, definitely report it...keep a copy and note the case number. These things can come back to haunt you.

I'm sorry you've been subject to such malicious behavior. Even if it was some naive teenager or juvenile adult, it is harmful and mean spirited, imo.

You might take on another email addy/name and use it extensively instead. That way, you can show that you took different steps to overcoming this event? IDK... perhaps your webmaster coach can help with better ideas.

I talked to the webmaster at our school and he suggested that I visit the police website, they have a special section where one can report illegal websites and hacking. So I just did. One can do it all on the computer, so it wasn't scary at all. It said I can't expect to get any feedback on where the case is going but to leave my phone number incase they needed more information, so I did.
I realy hope they find the people who did this. At least now I have reported it, so I feel a little better about it, even if I never know if they are found.
I didn't know the police had a special section for these things. It specifically said that one could report websites with child porn so maybe they can do something about it.
Thank you all for the help, I'll keep you updated if I hear anything.

Good going! It's a shame that it is so prevalent, but I'm glad you're doing all you can for yourself now, about it. I hope there is NO update but good news for you.
