I read this poor woman's story on CNN it is absolutely disgraceful how horrifically the mentally ill can be treated in the year 2014. If she was rich or had platinum health care it would probably never have happened. This was a story I would have expected from a third world country. Ebola patients are given more respect. My heart goes out to her and no employee repercussions will ever make up for this travesty. Prison felons receive more compassion.

What a shame.

24 hrs.? You can have NYC. That place is a zoo.
And PA has virtually done away with Psych Wards since the 90's: Psych Wards and State Hospitals shut down. And outpatient care is extremely weak. A good Psychiatrist will only skim the surface to find underlying problems/symptoms and past history. A poor psychiatrist does none of this. All of them can't stand their jobs.

Well, it's actually really old - from 2008. Point taken though.

i agree,,, a psychiatrist is first a doctor. yet i've never had one take my blood pressure to see if i was ready to stroke out... stress is a killer, but they never do a stress assessment. that is why i try to be my own medical coordinator.

with the resources of the web, and places like PC reporting on other people's experiences, it's quite possible to write up office notes that include questions of medical relevance.

however, i would never depend upon a psychiatrist for my medical care... i personally believe most of them are incompetent, the field is awash in pitfalls, misdiagnoses and 'trial and error' mentality. let me try to bully a good ol CPA or GP anyday
