I relate to this dream. I want (still) to be a professional actress. [i]And[i] I'd love to be able to sing and dance. I'm not going to moan about it right now, though. This doesn't really answer your question. I could say, "No," but I can't, since I don't know if anybody here sings or dances professionally, LOL! I can only say, "Not me."

Maven, are you doing anything to achieve it? or at least as a hobby?
acting is owsome, i like making fun of myself, and it turns out fine-but that`s not that great passion if mine. i dance and i try to sing. just hobbies. these days i come to belive that since i have been working on my body for a very long time and have flexibility and control-same thing may happen with the voice! the voacl folds are just a part of the body...why can`t they be trained? does it make sense to any1? that`s what seems to me from this again: http://www.singingsuccess.com heck how do i post a link? i HAVE posted a lonk in the chat room. never mind. (where i made that topic "would you believe?" ) i just NEED to tell it somebody. i am happy to know, Maven, that i am not alone here dreaming. some how dancing is fine, since i have most of the abilities i want. but sinigng is something that is HAUNTING me!!! really. i thought hundreds of times to give up. i rarely practiced. but every time i heard a some1 great sining next to me i felt SO sad that i will never be able to do it. see, i have : -writing (i send a novel to publish with God`s help) -songwriting -art and graphic design (my profession) -dancing they are all my passions! i can`t really give up on any1. now the sinigng was that thing that was impossible, these days i think it is. what do you say.... i am quite a dreamer...? i feel sometimes stupid becasue of my love for it. |

No, I can't do anything, even as a hobby, because of the nature of my OCD and panic. I am planning on pursuing it when I'm able, though.
The voice can be trained, in most cases. The term "tone deaf" is misused, in most cases. It's used to describe just about anyone who can't sing well, but in truth, it means a person can't distinguish musical notes when they hear them, and can't reproduce them, whereas most people who can't sing can distinguish the notes when hearing music; they just can't reproduce them. I've done a little research into singing lessons, and while not extensive, most teachers will say a person can at least improve their singing capabilities. There are different methods for teaching singing, and one of my favorites is called "speech level singing." You can find out more about that at SethRiggs.com. You might want to see TheSingingVoice.com as well. I have other links as well, if you want them. I know what you mean about the lessons. I hate practicing, but I know it's what's necessary, if you want to sing, and can't already, or if you want to improve your voice. Of course, part of it, too, is diet; certain foods and drinks can zap your voice. I'm working on starting a writing career, in hopes of earning enough money eventually to move and pursue my acting dreams. It's much later than I wanted to start these dreams, but I'd rather start late than never, and live with more regrets than I already do. Of course, I need to make more time to research for my writing. I have several things I want to learn about for my writing. There's nothing wrong with dreaming, but you have to work for those dreams to achieve them. And you have to stay positive and believe in yourself. There will always be people--even people you love and who love you--who will tell you to give up, you're being silly or impractical, the odds are so against you, etc. You just have to refuse to accept that. Just smile at the person and say, "Ok, you're entitled to your opinion and you've told it to me. That's nice. Now, go about your business and I'll go about mine. And don't feel stupid. Let me tell you something an actor (I wish I could recall who it was) said on The Tonight Show years ago. He said (not an exact quote), "You have to be crazy to be in this business. It takes someone crazy to think you're going to be successful and beat out the thousands of people who want to be stars, because no one in his right mind would do it." So, be crazy! Be the one who is going to go out there and do what you have to do to make it. Because no one else is going to be successful at it, because they're not crazy enough to try. Maybe you'll make it, maybe you won't, but at least you tried. There's no regret in that. But somebody's going to be a star, so why not go for one of the limited shots of being one? Even if fame isn't your goal, you have to go out there and do whatever it is you want to do. A few people are lucky, born to wealthy parents, meet the right people, win the lottery or a casino jackpot, etc. Don't count on luck. Work for it. You'll have a far better chance of making it, than if you wait around for luck to come knocking at your door. If anyone thinks you're stupid or wasting your life...screw'em! Yeah, you have to be prepared for real life, for not achieving your dreams. You plan a backup career (and it can be in the field you want...maybe learn what it takes to manage a band, be a talent agent, work in a studio in some other field besides the one you most want, etc.), but you also try to find a job in the meantime that allows you time to pursue your dream.

Brett inovated something in it. i can post some links with the workshop. yes it`s HARD to actually BE the instrument. but that deit think doesn`t do much for me. thank you so much for the incouragment! ![]() i agree with what you are saying. |

I'm glad I could make you feel better. I'm glad for the influences that gave me the firmness in my beliefs that I can have what I want, go for what I want, and others' negative attitudes couldn't sway me or keep me from achieving my dreams. Only I can do that.

ladymacbeth...
i too share your dream of singing. i have dreamt of being a singer for so many years now, and i am only 19 years old. I however am currently doing singing lessons once a week. i am chsing my dream and i will urge anyone to pursue any dream they may have. it is so rewarding. i am currently recording in my lessons and should have my first demo song ready within weeks. i know that i will achieve my dream. i too write songs, have written the basis of a film and have started writing a book. i am currently being plagued by the thoughts that i am not good enough, that i will never be good enough. it is something i am working so hard at to overcome, and it is these thougths that nearly forced me to give up and try a different "career". but my love and passion for music and for singing was way too strong and i felt i will never turn my back on it. i am working towards public performing and i am also aiming to be signed a record label so i can show the world what i have to offer. i would aslo like to act, and this film i have written...i want to be the main actor in that. i dont like dancing though, mainly because of a severe lack of self-belief. but acting and singing are things i know i will be doing in years to come. ladymacbeth...i would advise you to pursue this dream of yours. we dream for a reason, and no dream is impossible. if you want something enough and work hard enough for it, you will get all you want from your life and from your dreams. pm me if you like to discuss this more...id like that. its nice to share this passion with people who understand what its like to feel that way for singing etc. speak soon simon |

Simon, those negative thoughts are a pain in the butt, aren't they? I find it helps to collect inspirational quotes that "speak" to you. There are plenty of good quotes, but the ones you want to save are the ones that feel right to you, the ones that that make you feel great about yourself and your potential. When you're having these thoughts, read these quotes, or even post them around your room to remind you of your dreams and abilities. Here's a few you might like:
"The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Sophia Bedford-Pierce "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." - Les Brown "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Confucious "If you can dream it, you can do it." - Walt Disney "Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." - Henry Ford "Live with passion!" - Anthony Robbins "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt." - William Shakespeare

I am Aries, yes...and my birthday is on the 4th of April, so a day before yours, ladymacbeth...
I think the piano is a wonderful instrument, just like the voice. I got my keyboard last night and have been sat at it playing random tunes all day...it is awesome! i love it! I cant wait until i am able to play professional, i really cant! Maybe you could give me some pointers some time. I too have recently began exercises...mainly to bulk up a little as i am very thin and it will help me feel more confident about myself too which will help with my music. I gather 2 octaves is a good starting range then...i didnt know anything about octaves until i began lessons, and she told me i have a 2 octave range and said that its really good...and i was like "is it, i wouldnt know" lol... So did you play publicly often then, ladymacbeth...? Simon |
