Is it normal to think in images and other ways rather than words?

As far as what I glean from people describing thoughts and its processes from their perspective, it always sounds like an internal monologue or conversation.

I usually think...other?If I explore a memory, idea,or concept, I see it rather than hear it in my head-more simulation rather than linear or a matrix of progression.

Also, there is this thing...
a thought that's not a thought. Sometimes entire thought processes or thing they produce seem to spring forward through feeling. I don't mean emotion, I mean feeling my brains energy (for instance tracing the amygdala to show where i felt anger in explaation to my counselor, and I'm nor sure if that's the right term, only that I was told I traced the perfect shape of whatever its called). Further, it feels like rapid simultaneous thought, but without any placeholder in conceptualization, no words or images. Like awareness of the Subconscious without the conscious mind bothering to categorize or fully react to it.

I really need insight on this, where I'm from, South Carolina, I was told this is a delusion or sign of psychosis, here in California, I'm told I'm a genius. The extreme contradiction is extremely stressful, as I don't know whether to heighten or lower my ambitions and expectations, esp since I have a family history of mental illness

Hi Akira Complex

I'm hoping that some others will chime in and shed some light with their own experiences. It sounds confusing, I agree. I hope someone can help you with your questions very soon.

yes it is normal to think in images. many people call this daydreaming, visualizing, .....the human brain is an amazing thing that thinks based on many different things like smells, visuals, hearing, tastes, touch, life, personal preferences, cultural background, race, ...gosh there are so many different things that affects how a person thinks.

Some people are more tactile meaning their brain processes/thinks better when they are touching something, others are visual others need to write or draw....

usually its a learning disability if a person is unable to think/process using visuals and such...

there are tests that can diagnose whether a person is a visual thinker or any other type of learning /thinking process and can also diagnose whether a persons perceptions are altered due to possible learning disorders that come from not being able to think/process in various modes of thinking /processing information. to be tested you will need to contact a mental health treatment provider. they will have all the testing information for your location. you said in your post you have been told you are a genius. does that mean you already we4nt through testing. if so contact the treatment providers that tested you. they will be able to explain to you why you are a visual thinker vs other ways of thinking.
