So Sometimes, I feel like things are crawling in my hair. It isn't lice because I haven't found anything, and I take showers quite often. I sort of get anxious about this stuff. I was wearing shorts and it felt like something was crawling on my legs, but when I tried to brush whatever it was off my legs, it felt like it jumped. It felt like a bunch of tiny, microscopic bugs were hopping on different parts of my legs. I got all paranoid and was afraid that they were all over my body. I took a shower and washed really good. It seems to have died down, but I'm always imagining a buzzing sound and I still sort of have the heeby jeebys..is this any sort of sign of any mental illness like Schizophrenia? I know that's silly to ask..but I just want to make sure.. Thank you! (:

Greetings Madcap...
Question for you - have you been practicing meditation, engaging in intensive prayer/praying, and/or have you been pursuing a spiritual path/understanding in life? The reason I ask is because there are some internal changes that can occur within an individual which can bring about the sensations that you are describing - in this context the symptoms are transient (temporary). I experienced something similar to what you are describing, but without more information from you I cannot suggest one way or another... Also, do these sensations by any chance feel more pronounced at night when you lay down to fall asleep?

Hi madcap
I'm glad you're here. I can't give you a medical opinion but I can share personal experiences that I know. A friend of mine felt the same sensations as you do. She has no diagnosis of any kind, so it wasn't related to mental health. It occurred during times of anxiety and eventually disappated. The other time I have heard of this occuring has been a reaction to medication that people take. Normally psychiatric medication that they are taking. We don't really know why your skin is feeling these sensations. It really could be a number of reasons. Have you had a chat with your family doctor about this? You might get a little bit more useful insight into what may be causing this. Take care and let us know how you go. |
