I'm 25, but recently I bought a couple of Monster High dolls. I was feeling pretty low that day and they were half price, plus I had my colleague discount to use.
It was just that as I walked past them I knew that I really wanted them.
I have no desire to play with them. I just like having them.
Actually, I really like Monster High in general. Not the cartoon or films. But, I like learning about all the different characters. I feel sort of addicted to them.
Is this wrong? Should I go along with it until I feel that I don't need them anymore?
I don't why I'm like this. I want to buy more though even if I don't play with them.

Hey. I'm 31 and I bought some Ever After High dolls myself. If you want Monster High dolls, then go and buy them. Don't feel so self conscious about it. Remember, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Thank you, that makes me feel much better.
Also, thank you for the Snap Club link you posted in my "feeling empty" post. I haven't looked at it yet, but I will when I don't feel so all over the place. I think that the guilt of wanting MH dolls sort adds to that.

No problem. I understand. I find writing down all the thoughts that bog my mind up really helps me. I don't know if you're a writer, or not, but if you can express yourself through words, I'd give that a try. I find that doing so helps me to become more centered and focused as I don't have all those random crazy thoughts flying all over the place inside my mind. You'd be surprised with how much you can focus without all those stray thoughts clogging up the works and weighing you down.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, you can look at it this way, it's like Professors Dumbledore or Snape using their pensieve. Your paper or computer screen are the pensieve and your pen or fingers are the wand drawing the thoughts out of your head and into the pensieve.

If you're not a Harry Potter fan, then you're probably lost by now, which is quite alright. Just focus on writing down everything and anything that is on your mind and you'll feel much better in no time. I promise.

That's OK, if that is what it takes to feel good. Just one thing, don't take them on dates. I used to take my teddy bear on dates - it put people off.

I believe the desires to buy, own, and know about these items is an addiction known as ... Collecting. Relax, millions of perfectly "normal" adults world- wide collect all kinds of toys - Barbie, Star Wars, Stieff bears, Hello Kitty, you name it. Some of these collectible can become quite valuable - if you pick the right subject and the right products and the market becomes "hot".

As long as it isn't something like "I don't pay my rent so I can buy more" it's perfectly fine. I've never heard of "Monster High" but no doubt there is a community of collectors for it.
Thanks for this!

Just googled it out of curiosity - there are all kinds of online forums devoted to collecting Monster High toys - you have plenty of company.

I collect ties by a certain designer/artist - I have dozens, but there are people out there with hundreds and hundreds.
Thanks for this!

Hi BBB2.
Don't feel ashamed of your desire & need for Monster High dolls. It is a need from your inner child. Go with it as it is what SHE NEEDS. Have you worked on your inner child with your t? If not, then I would talk about the desire and need that you feel you have. I was sceptical at first and felt a bit ridiculous. However, it was incredibly important work, which I needed to do. I now have two Steiff teddy bears. Xxx
Thanks for this!

I'm 25 as well, and I have a ton of stuffed toys/ plushies (whatever you want to call them)-- characters from movies, animals and in fact, I have all the My Little Pony plushies sitting on my nightstand. I don't really watch the show, but I have them. It's cute and fun! So no worries!

Buying toys of the kind I used to like as a kid does have a relaxing effect. I just very rarely do it because it makes me feel a bit silly at the time.

I do not see what is wrong with that...also I think much of the time kids are more inclined to 'play' in general I still have some toys from when I was a kid I don't play with them anymore but I like to have them. I also sometimes want to buy stuff out of those quarter dispensers that have little toys in them but seems like i never have change when I see one of those

Lots of people collect things, seems like that is what you are doing and certainly nothing wrong with it...you should collect whatever you like.

Don't worry... My friend (who is 30) and her husband have spent $1000+ on Legos and build them together. If I had the spare money and time, I'd totally buy Legos, too!

Sounds to me like you're going through a hard time and did something nice for yourself to help yourself feel better. So way to go! Good job!

Just wanted to add - collecting can be addictive but profitable - a former coworker of mine spent in excess of $100K collecting ceramic figurines by a certain early 20th C American artist. By really knowing his subject matter and working and trading to upgrade pieces, documenting provenance, etc, his collection was appraised by the leading authority on the artist in excess of 500K. It was an addiction, but gave him tremendous pleasure as well as making friends all over the US as he traveled to shows and exhibitions.

I like to buy toys for kids at Christmas. And strolling through the aisles brings back childhood memories and memories from my children's childhoods.

You did fine. As everyone said. Just remember to keep things in perspective. I think we all need something for our inner child. Or for our adult side who just likes to have something fun.

If I had room, then I would collect some sci-fi items. I still have my robot from "Lost in Space" packed away. And I have a robot key chain somewhere that I bought as a adult and actually used for awhile. "Danger, danger, Will Robinson!"
