I feel like I've spent the last 22 years being tired (lol). No matter how much sleep I get, I'm always exhausted and unable to get my head out of the fog you get in when you've just woken up. I yawn all day and at almost any point in time, I can take a nap. I've slept 8 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, and now I'm sleeping 11-12 hours a day because if I get less than that, I literally can't wake up enough to get anything done.

I've always been tired, but I'm wondering if my meds are just making me exhausted to the point that I'm at now. Could they be still affecting my alertness that much if I've been on them for like 3 years?

I also am a person who's just always tired. I presume it is because of my life-long depression & anxiety. Running continuously on one's nerves is tiring. For the past 2+ years, I've been on the maximum recommended dosage of either Cymbalta, or it's generic equivalent. (I'm currently tapering off due to cost considerations.) But being on the maximum recommended dosage of this SNRI has only added to my ongoing tiredness.

Without meds I sleep 4 hours or less....doesn't work well for my mental health. It could be your meds have you talked to you doc about this?

I used to sleep 12-14 a day; it was getting really bad. I was always tired too so it's not like it fixed anything (I also used to fall asleep anywhere and everywhere). Now I get 4 hours of sleep (there's not enough time to do everything in a day) but I do try to aim for 9 hours. The 'healthy/normal' amount of sleep is ~8 hours though.

The reason you may be oversleeping may be because of your mental health (not too sure about meds and their affect on sleep) or a health issue (e.g. thyroid or anemia). This is what my aunt said (who is a family doctor) when my mum complained to her about me sleeping too much.

Usually it 8 hours a day would be enough sleep.

But I don't sleep much, I guess you get used to it when it become a daily patern.
My boyfriend often works nightshift and overnight shift; so when he get out of bed, I would immediately notice. I'm a light sleeper.

I only manage 5-7 hours. Rarely go for 8 or more.

Anxiety is exhausting tho. It's like playing tug of war with multiple ropes and multiple opponents. Had it yesterday and I was beat afterwards and it was only 5pm.

This is a really hard question. One that I'm still figuring out. For me, the question is about how much sleep I need in order to perform optimally at study, or whatever. I seem to feel tired most of the time... I'm only just learning to separate out the feeling of tiredness (don't matter) from my physiological ability to function (what does matter).

I think I mostly get too much sleep. Probably around 9 hours. My alarm wakes me up but unless I have a physical reason to get up (or I'll be late for an external committment) my half-asleep self always decides it is far too tired to wake up and there is no point feeling like that forever and the only solution is to go right back go sleep... So back to sleep I go and I have trouble getting to sleep that night because I'm not tired yet... And before I know it I'm not getting to sleep until 3am and I'm waking up around 10 or 11 or 12... And feeling tired all the time...

At various points I've had deadlines that meant I had less sleep because I literally had to work... I've felt... A little buggy eyed. A little hyper. But I was able to really crank through the work... And I crashed easily in a deep sleep at night... And woke up 5 minutes before my alarm... Some of the time, anyway.... How many hours? I think more like 7 or 8...

It depends so much... On how hard I work at the gym... On how stressful the work is... On whether I'm fighting off something... I know that probably once a week... Once every second week... I basically need a day in bed to recover from life... But doing that... I can't remember the last time I had a cold / flu / got sick. So... I guess that indicates something...

My sleep needs tend to fluctate for different reasons.

For me, personally, in my situation, a lot has to do with current meds and med dosages that I am on, as well as whether or not I am transitioning through a mood state.

Generally I need around 8 hours a day, although I don't mind a 1 hour cat nap during the day.
