Why are there so many sick people in the world? I'm referring to those who get joy out of animal suffering. I have seen videos on YouTube, MySpace and other sites where people post cute animal videos, and people have to make rude comments. Today, I saw a horrible video--wouldn't have watched it, but I just had to see what I knew would be there, the rude comments, but I watched the video in order to be able to judge it--where a pelican eats a pigeon. Yes, pigeons eat fish, a kind of meat, and I'm not angry at the pelican or the person who filmed it, but I just feel terrible for the pigeon, thinking of the terror it felt and the suffering it endured. But as I said, sure enough, there were people who thought it was cool and funny, and I feel so sick when people take pleasure in an animal's suffering. I just needed to vent, and this is a good place to vent about this sort of thing.

same reason my neighbors cruelly abused and tortured and fought their dogs. they're not in tune with any kind of humanity or compassion. in short, they're idiots.

UGH! I had to explain the circle of life to my extremely sensitive 8yo. We'd watched a show called Planet Earth (rated G) on the Discovery channel. About an hour after he'd gone to bed I heard him crying. The part of the show showing how pandas live/survive had him bawling. It showed that female pandas usually have two babies at a time and almost always let one die because she doesn't provide enough milk for two. He only got the part about letting one baby die. So here it is, the middle of the night and we're showing him sites on the net about people who save pandas and how many people in the world really do care. - He went to bed a very happy child. - I hope he never changes.

Yeah, it is sad that people can get their sick thrills by brining harm or torturing animals. Grrrrrrrr!
Just a little correction, pigeons are seed-feeders. When I worked at the The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ, our pigeons from weeks after their hatching we were re-hab feeding with special little things we filled with "baby" pidgeon seed and nutrients, that had a cloth tip with a hole in for them to stick their little beaks and feed their hungry little crops. Now, crows will eat newborn mice, small fish, crack peanut shells open and eat that, seed feed would be the last on their list unless that's all they could find. We'd get some horribly abused birds/raptors brought in to be saved, our re-habbers and vet worked their best to save them. There were cases were idiots that painted plain pigeons to appear as white doves, to let go at weddings or various celebrations, some bagged and dumped in garbage dumpsters, geese suffering from poisoning, wild foul suffering from neuro damage from kinds of herbacides used mostly on golf courses. Certainly due to many birds ability to fly, most likely aren't victims of torture as other animals are. It's very sad, and sad to see when they are brought in to be saved while being close to death, we all had crushed emotions when they were beyond saving. ![]() I got off there for a moment, getting back to your post, I find it horrible people get a thrill filming abuse of animals, as I find those that participate in such sick behaviour. Interesting post. ![]()

The human race is becoming more twisted and sick with each generation. They not only think animals killing animals is funny, they turn around and torture, mame and kill their own kind and worse yet, THE YOUNG of their own kind!

[b]darkeyes[/i], I made a mistake in my typing: I meant that pelicans eat fish, not pigeons.
Since animal fighting was brought up, I was upset again tonight to hear on the news, some puppies were stolen from a pet store, probably to be used to train dogs to fight. And a little dog was killed horribly by two pit bulls, and the poor little girl and her mother were crying, and my heart broke for them and their dog. I also felt bad for the two pit bulls, because their owner didn't do the responsible thing and keep them restrained, plus obviously didn't train them properly. I feel so sickened by those who fight dogs, and the punishments are never severe enough on the rare occasions that they're caught. I want to do something (about many causes, along with this), but I feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of organizations, groups and all that, plus the limitations of laws, and the lack of laws. It's all about money!!! And it's the dogs used in fighting, both the pit bulls and the "bait" dogs, that pay the ultimate price. Dogs trained to fight can't be rehabilitated, so they're put to sleep when they're rescued, but at least they won't have to fight anymore. We need more and harsher laws in regards to animal welfare.
