Hi everyone.

Could someone explain the difference between compartmentalization and Suppression?

I´ve found this example: Soldiers who need to file away the trauma of horrific events in their minds, so they can continue operating in battle. Pushing out trauma works in combat, but once they come back to their regular lives, they often find those pushed away memories coming back to haunt them, like in cases of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Compartmentalization is pretty similar to suppression. I suppress uncomfortable thoughts in order to file away anxiety.

Thank you!

chrmad, Hello and welcome to PC. It is nice to meet you. You ask some very specific questions that might be best researched or addressed by a professional. I am not a therapist so here are a couple links that may help.

It takes a little while for your first 5 posts to appear. We have a resource center that may help.
