I don't understand why some people behave the way that they do. TO ANIMALS.
I just read a news story that made me throw up in my mouth, it is just ... WHY ... I am sorry to yell ... some teenager got a beautiful little puppy and locked it in his room for 3 days without any food or water while he went on holiday ... They only gave him a warning. I would have given him a flogging. ![]() Look at the pic, the little thing is so beautiful. http://www.stuff.co.nz/4019885a11.html Sorry I just had to vent. Such a great sign for the rest of the little plonker's life - animal cruelty precedes lots of whacko behaviour. I truely believe there is a case for an eye for an eye here - lock HIM up with no food, no water, nowhere to poo for three days. ARRGHHHHH I just cannot deal with people treating animals badly. It is kinda a hot button with me ![]() |

I'm in absolute agreement! Mistreatment of animals is a hot-button issue with me, too. I feel enraged, upset, depressed, and impotent, because the problem is so huge and overwhelming, and too many people just don't give a d***. How can you F***ing do that???? (Sorry, but this makes me so mad!!!) I truly hate these people, and would gladly make them suffer for what they do to animals, were it in my hands. They're so lucky it's not. The law will never punish them as they deserve, but I wish it was so much harsher, to fit the crime better.
When I saw your post, DSF, I went straight to the link without finishing your post first, afraid they let the idiot keep the puppy. I see you said they didn't (I finished your post after I came back! ![]() And now that it's Easter, a bunch of idiots will buy chicks and bunnies, not knowing how to care properly for them, or not being willing to, and they will be taken to the SPCA and humane shelters, and some will even be released in the wild (usually to die), and most will be euthanized, because there's not enough homes. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way in which its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi 'Nuff said. I could post on and on about animal issues that bother me, but I'll try to keep the thread on-topic. ![]()

Poor puppy. Cute little munchkin. People are dumb. You don't just GET RID OF A PET the minute you don't like it! Yeesh. It's supposed to be like family, I know my family's "babies" are. How can people be so mean. When will people learn responsibility for their actions... *sighs*

So with you Maven, Inny, Christina ...
It is similar to the 'Christmas Rush' - in NZ it's a big thing because it's summer and there are lots of kiddies wanting kittens and puppies as presents, then after a few days / weeks the novelty wears off and it's time for the family trip away - so they either leave them at home alone to hopefully run away while they're gone, or (even worse) they will do stuff like throw them out of the car once they've left home. Grrrrr ![]() |

what i want to know..is where are the parents??? Granted he is old enough to know...but the parents could have had enough brains to tell their child not to do that....i mean well..i guess they didnt have enough brains to give him the puppy in the first place..but come on...gezz the parents coulda at least game him food if he was making noise.....and if they went on vacation with the kid why didnt they help out the kid to take him to a kennel for the time being....???? I mean a 16 year old should have responsiblity enough to ask them what do to...but grrrr....

It sounds like they all they all have poo for brains and no sense of responsibility, empathy, or the ability to care for a helpless animal.

InACorner, I couldn't agree more. I really hate parents who give their kids, or allow their kids to have, a pet, with the idea that it's solely the kid's responsibility. If the kid doesn't care for the pet, parents who don't take on that responsibility (or give the pet to someone who is responsible) are just as responsible for the pet's suffering as the kid, maybe even more. I have never advocated giving a kid a pet without being willing to take over if the kid doesn't do what s/he should. That doesn't mean the kid gets away with it; you punish the kid...criminally, if necessary...but you don't let the animal suffer. It's a life, people!!!
And Liberada, I was actually thinking the same thing. Did it say the puppy was four weeks old? I missed that! You're right...four weeks is too early!

And this surprises everyone? Just look at how we treat each other as a species - does one really think we are going to treat "lesser" species any better???

I suppose I'd hope that helpless creatures would be given some more help and love and respect.
I can see that this might go into the abuse angle of things, but that isn't where I was aiming to go. |

We don't get enough of it from here, listening to what has gone on "our" lives, that we must start reporting things like this from other "outside" sources? Don't know 'bout you, but that is why I stopped reading newspapers.

I want to be informed, in hopes of helping those we can help. I can't afford to donate right now, but I have donated to animal organizations and shelters, and plan to again. I believe it's important to keep informed. Shutting out this information, on the occasions when we can help in some way, will only hurt.

You didn't have to read it at all. I care a lot about social issues, I prefer not to stick my head in the sand. And animal issues are, as I said, something that resonates with me - I love animals, I wish I could have one but I live in an apartment and also have the view to moving back overseas pretty soon, so it's hardly fair. Yea I always give to SPCA appeals. Pretty sure you can choose whether or not to open a thread or not ![]() ![]() |
