Yes, the idea is to be able to function in society. By that, I mean be able to keep a job, pay the bills, and maybe have a small amount left over for luxuries.

Since I am unable to do that now, that's my goal. Once/If I reach that, goal, I will then look down the road to the next goal. I will not be satisfied with the status quo, ever, really. I will always be looking to learn, improve, and better myself.

And if it's 2 steps forward, and 1 step back, or even 2 steps back sometimes, so be it. Not giving up.

If that's too cliche, or AA, or NA, or 12 steps, or whatever, it's all good. Whatever works. For me.

I definitely think meds help many ppl
But when ppl are traumatized severely alot of recovery has to do with working out issues
My father wss traumatized badly but worked throughh it without meds
I have bipolar woth no history of trauma nd meds help
Its case by case

Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

Our moods are controlled and created by chemicals, hormones, serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline, oestrogen the list goes on.

Even 'love' is a drug;
Dr. Helen Fisher, an anthropologist and relationship researcher, conducted a series of illuminating studies on the brain chemistry of love. Specifically, she found that the same brain chemicals (that is, massive amounts of dopamine and norepinephrine ) are in play, and many of the same brain pathways and structures are active when we are falling in love and enjoying a cocaine-high.

I think there is some flexibility in the brain so I'm sure therapy can work for some, in as much as positive thinking, repetition etc can encourage more 'feel good' chemicals to be released.
Fantastic post...we have to believe there's hope--or else. We DO have a lot more control over what's happening upstairs than we let ourselves believe. For skeptics, google the term "neuroplasticity". It's amazing what neurologists are discovering about the resilience of the brain.
Thanks for this!

And did you know that brains of people who practice meditation are wee bit of different too? Even brains of conservatives and liberals (I wonder if them brain scans will tell you if one is being idiotic about their stances too )

So it seems hardly an argument. I will not make any more "offensive" statements. It was all food for thought. If you current approach is working for you, stick with it and don't torture yourself with endless rumminating and asking about it.
