So yeah, I never got to go to the Support group I wanted to go to yesterday because for some stupid reason my insurance company set the cab up to pick me up after my appointment at 11:15 PM. Don't ask me why, but they did. And I had to tell the cab company they need to pick me up sooner than that, cuz that's just fn ridiculous. So I have a support group for Bipolar and depressed people to go to tonight. Hoping I actually get there this time.

I hope you make it on time. It sounds like it could be a very helpful group. I used to go to a anxiety/panic group and it was a big help. Good luck.

The group was wonderful. Everyone there was nice. I even found out how I can get a free service animal. That I could really use. I will be going back every Wednesday between 7PM-9PM I am thinking. Unless something I can't forgive happens. But I don't see it happening, I mean it might...but I doubt it will. Thanks for being so curious. I can't really talk about a lot that I talked about in the group because your not supposed to but I liked it. And when I got to talk I felt like I was actually listened to. Gonna be calling my psych clinic every week to get a cab to go to the support group. By the way the group is called Bipolar Bears.

I went to a depression/bipolar support group 6-7 years ago, and I still go weekly. It changed my life so drastically, for the better!

That great news, Angelwngs25. Your group sounds dynamic. In my experience a good support group can be an amazing help. Last year I was going to a group...it was okay, but not terrific. One major issue was cross-talk between long-time members. The facilitators would ask people to stop the cross-talk, they'd stop for a little while- only to start it up again. I found the cross-talk so rude and demeaning. And the group wasn't that helpful, so one day I just stopped going and I haven't been back.
2 hours is a good length for a group, too. Another problem I had with the group I was going to was only 90 minutes, which wasn't long enough. |

I used to go to a group for depression and bipolar a year or two ago for a while but it was an hour drive away and I have anxiety issues about driving and now my work schedule doesn't allow me to go. It was somewhat helpful but like someone else said, the longtime members did most of the talking and I didn't get to say much. The facilitator didn't do much facilitating and just kind of let people ramble on about all the things going on in their lives for a really long time. Then I would try to say something for like 3 seconds and then they would move on to someone else. I guess it's partly my social anxiety. I don't know if I could have even produced a long rambling story myself if I tried.

I hope it goes well. I wish there was something like that for my bf, he's been trying to get med insurance so he can see a therapist and.or psychiatrist to go on meds, I think the more natural approach would be good, like having a support group. I'm like the only support he has at the moment.
