It is said that psychosis linked to depression and those suffering bipolar can experience :-

1) lost touch with reality
2) a total lack of judgement

If a person is suffering from the above do you think there is a greater risk of them making mistakes or behaving in ways which are totally out of character ?

Does emailing or texting somebody create a an experience where it is easier to be out of touch with reality than by sitting down with somebody and talking face-to-face ?

In the impersonal world of texts and emails rather than communication by speech, can it actually cause the sufferer to become even more out of touch with reality ?
Thanks for this!

I do believe that being face to face with someone heightens the reality. It's so easy to be impersonal through text and email.

Sometimes, though, and email is as close as I can come to interacting. I don't have the energy to carry on a conversation face to face, so I rely on text and emails, but I do think that it isn't the best way to communicate.

That's a good question. At first, I thought unequivocally, No. I have schizoaffective d/o. For me, online communication is how I interact with the world. Without it I would be even less in touch with people b/c I am unable to be around people IRL. Even communicating online is difficult for me.

That being said, I think that there are people who lose all touch with reality when they immerse themselves in the online world. Not sure how that is affected by e-mailing.

I guess I didn't give you much of an answer.
