Please keep the students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni of Virginia Tech in your thoughts and prayers.
There was a shooting this morning in a residence hall (my resident hall my freshman year) and later a shooting in one of the engineering buildings (one where my husband had a significant amount of his classes). The news stations are reporting a gunman with extensive ammunition shooting randomly into classrooms. We still have friends attending Tech and Hubby has students planning to go there/going there. It's a very scary day for Hokies everywhere. VT Shootings VT Shootings VT Shootings

They're reporting 22 dead, including the gunman.

They're calling it the worst school shooting since Columbine.
Coincidentally, I was on the VT campus when the Columbine shootings occurred. I guess we're all guilty of thinking it doesn't happen to us...it doesn't happen "here".

I went to school 17 miles from there.... and am currently about 2 hours from there. Our hearts go out to the situation there.
It is terrible and just very unrealistic. |

The President just had a news conference and said there are over 30 dead and more injured.

Such a horrible, horrible tragedy!
Thoughts and prayers with EVERYONE involved (including the gunman/woman and his/her family for they are also in need of compassion). WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO AND WHERE WILL IT ALL END????? Altered State

Finally got to speak with my hubby. He's worried about his former professors, colleagues, and of course the students in Norris. A lot of his classes are in that building since his department building is right next door.
Praying for all the families.

A former coworker was in that building...one of the professors. I have been told that he died today. We were not close but he was close to many of my coworkers. He was a gentle soul, kind, quiet, wife, 3 kids, taking the world by the many opportunites that had been given him. I will remember his kind eyes and spirit and am sad for his loss.

I heard on one report, where the gunman shot the professor first. When you are familiar with a place, you feel extra connected to this type of tragedy. Hugs, EJ |
