MSNBC is reporting a shooting and a suspect on the loose all too close to me. Not around the corner, exactly, but this is the 'burbs where people are mobile. I have to go out in about 90 minutes, and I am going to avoid this area, but it is scary to think the gunman could be anywhere. It sounds like a crime of passion, so he probably isn't thinking too clearly right now. Police are afraid that he may highjack a car.

We had that here once with a bank robber who shot two of the tellers. The news stated that the police in our area wanted residents to stay indoors. We lived in an apartment at the time & the police helicopters were hovering practically over my porch due to there being a wooded area there. They did finally find him up in a tree in that area by our apartment & when the police confronted him he shot himself.

He was a young kid who had been turned down for a loan at that bank the day before.--Suzy

Murders happen in this neighborhood all the time. It's nothing for me to be trying to go to sleep and hear gunfire. A young man working two jobs was killed recently by teenagers two blocks from here.

One night I was trying to go to sleep and I heard someone unload a revolver. I counted the shots. When he used all his bullets someone with an automatic, (holds many more bullets) started firing. The incident was in the paper the next day.

Stay safe. Lock your doors. Be aware of everything around you. Check your car before you get in it. Carry your cell phone in your hand so you can call 911. Train yourself to listen to everything around you. (I can't because I have hearing loss from being attacked, but I do my best.) When you pull in to park, look at everything around you before you get out of the car. Turn off the lights if it's night time and let your eyes adjust to the darkness so you can see better. Trust your gut feelings.

I hope this helps and I didn't mean to preach. It's a scary world out there sometimes.

Hugs,

Jan

That is scary Wants2Fly. I lived in Washington, D.C. in the "best" neighborhood but would sometimes hear gunshots from across the street on summer nights. And where I use to live was near a correctional facility that often had escapees. I use to comfort myself by realizing they weren't after/didn't know me, personally. Probably the odds are still better with getting hit by a car crossing the street.

I just saw that on the news...stay safe. It is a scary world. Scary shooting in my area

A few years back we had this guy named Hank Earl Carr who brought his son into the hospital for being "accidently" shot in the head. He lied about his name etc and was arrested. He was able to unlock his handcuffs (he wore a key around his neck) and then shot and killed the two police officers.

He escaped and was chased by a state trooper who he killed a mile from where I live. I was trying to get home from work and couldn't because the area was shut down.

He drove to a convenience store, held a pregnant woman hostage until he finally released her then killed himself.

It was a very scary day. I wish you didn't have to go out. Scary shooting in my area

I hope it's a better turn out today in your area.

When I lived in Baltimore, I heard gunshots routinely on Saturday nights. I am glad y'all have reminded me about this, because I can look back and be greatful that I have such a peaceful life now -- even though I do miss the many good things that a city has to offer, such as museums, interesting galleries and stores, college lectures, wider variety of films and newspapers and artistic people.

At any rate, this dope shot his girlfriend, then tried to shoot himself, but was out of bullets. Then he and his friend go to a convenience store across the street to pick up a few things and get caught on camera and soon arrested. Now that is just plain dumb! "I hurt so bad, I better get me a cigarette and a bottle of beer"?????

Thanks for the concern and empathy, everyone.
