excerpt from letter i received:
The law takes effect immediately. It provides felony penalties for interstate commerce, import and export related to animal fighting activities, including commerce in cockfighting weapons. It will make it much harder for criminals who engage in dogfighting and cockfighting to continue their operations. Each violation of the federal law may bring up to three years in jail and up to a $250,000 fine for perpetrators. (think, neighbor!!) We are fortunate to have had steadfast Congressional leadership on this issue. But this campaign would not have been a success without your tireless efforts. Thank you again to each of you who sent emails, made phone calls, wrote letters and visited your federal legislators on Capitol Hill and in their home districts. This victory reminds us to never to give up, and that there are rewards for compassionate action and perseverance. Please share this tremendous news with others and let them know that you had a part in making it happen. |

it took hundreds of thousands of volunteers who wrote, called, e.mailed, faxed and donated as much as they could to do this!!
can you imagine this bill not being signed into law? the hundreds of thousands of these dedicated volunteers could turn into an an ugly, snarling mob in a New York second!!   we did good! and i'm really proud of every last one that signed anything or donated $1 to help get this passed. my neighbor wouldn't have gotten off with a $273.00 fine!!!!!!!!!! yes, you heard me right.........xoxo pat |

that's awesome........ i love animals and i hate it when people mistreat them. there should be laws like that everywhere as far as i'm concerned. good job pat!

One of the sponsors of that bill was my Congressman, Elton Gallegly. I never really had much use for him and I never voted for him, but he got this one right.
