I am now able to lift my friend Cher's wheelchair into my car when it's absolutely necessary. I had to stop taking her places because of the chest injury I had last year.

Her glasses broke and we went to Walmart to order her new glasses and we both needed to shop. Cher and I hadn't been to Walmart in over a year, so we had a good time. I take the buggy and she rolls along behind me. I make the path and she follows. I have to watch people because they don't pay attention and hit her with their buggies.

Anyway, we had a grand time and I'm exhausted. There was a problem though. I made an absolute fool out of myself when I came to pick her up at the apt. building.

We have a little ramp that people with wheelchairs can use so they can get into a vehicle. Someone had parked a truck where you couldn't get to the ramp. Without the ramp, I couldn't get to Cher.

It was pouring rain and I decided to go around the truck and try to back into the spot. My shoulder is really sore so I couldn't turn to look where I was going. My right mirror was out of alignment and I couldn't use it. I kept bumping the sidewalk and had to try several times before I got to Cher.

She has never driven and was absolutely puzzled by what I was doing. I opened the car door and got out with rain dripping all over me and she said, "What were you doing?" I yelled, "I was backing up because some &(()*&^^% blocked the ramp!" I Can't Believe I Did That!

A Traumatic Brain Injury can cause you to say exactly what you're thinking and to my horror, I heard myself yell that to Cher in front of the neighbors. It startled one of the neighbors so much that he ran in and got the manager to tell her the truck was there! When Cher and I drove off they were deciding if they needed to have the truck towed. I do hope they did. They were probably also wondering if I'd lost my mind. I Can't Believe I Did That!

Oh well....

Jan

Jan, It sounds like maybe they were more upset that the truck was blocking the ramp? I think you did great and I'm sure Cher was so happy to have you there to help. I Can't Believe I Did That! I Can't Believe I Did That! I Can't Believe I Did That!

Cher was horrified! You know, I don't care if people block me. I can walk. People in wheel chairs need their ramps.

She laughed about it, but she was horrified. I Can't Believe I Did That!

Hugs,

Jan

And that in itself is justification for acting like that. (haha or so I think so... I wish people would understand my need for ramp access!) You're a good friend, albeit a bit ... humorous.

Glad you had a good time with Cher. I Can't Believe I Did That!

PS. You haven't lost your mind... you've lost your marbles. I'd give you some of mine, but I'm fresh out. I Can't Believe I Did That!

It's amazing how disrespectful people can be.

However, a correction: It's not that people in wheelchairs need their ramps, but ramps need their people in wheelchairs! I Can't Believe I Did That!

Never mind, it made people pay attention... and hopefully they'll be less likely to block ramps in future! I Can't Believe I Did That!

Jan, I think you had justification. One thing I've found out from experience is that people do not listen to me when I ask politely. I don't know this is true. I will even warn them and say, "You are making me angry. Please do/don't do this again."

Then, when I lose my temper, they are shocked, truly shocked. LOL. But they conform, %#*&it.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If I could express my authentic self like that, it would be a blessing. I am trying to connect with my inner Wild Woman and you are there. I hope I can catch up with you.

Jan, I *don't* have a traumatic brain injury and that's *exactly* what I would have said. Would you like to speculate on what that says about me? I Can't Believe I Did That!
